THE SIXTH 6th
Tucked along Thanon Maha Rat in the historic Phra Nakhon district, this small Thai and Asian fusion restaurant has earned a devoted following for its genuinely authentic cooking in a neighbourhood saturated with tourist-facing options. What sets it apart is a clear commitment to quality ingredients and careful preparation — dishes like pad thai, som tum, tom yum, and fried rice are consistently described by visitors as flavourful and unpretentious, with one Thai diner noting the food goes well beyond a typical tourist attraction. Portions are satisfying without being excessive, making it easy to order across several dishes and explore the menu. The atmosphere is relaxed and homely, and the staff are frequently praised for attentive, helpful service — including checking in on dietary preferences. Pricing sits at the mid-range level, offering solid value given the quality and the prime location near Bangkok's major temples and riverside landmarks. It works equally well as a casual lunch stop during a day of sightseeing or as a more leisurely meal. Good to know: Opening hours vary slightly across the week, with Friday and Tuesday closing earlier at 16:45, while most other days the restaurant stays open until 18:30. There is no evening service, so this is strictly a daytime dining destination. Given its location in one of Bangkok's busiest sightseeing corridors, arriving just before or after the midday rush can help secure a table with a little more ease.

10 Days in Thailand - and this is our No.1 place to eat. Homely environment but with extremely delicious food at super reasonable prices. Portions were not huge but sufficient allowing you to try a couple of things. The flavours were amazing and the service was very attentive and personalised. Conveniently located a few steps from Wat Pho and in a beautiful part of the area. They make you feel extremely welcome and I cannot rave about this place enough.
I’m Thai. I can say this restaurant is more than just tourist attraction 🥹🫶🏻 The taste is authentic, the price is reasonable, The portions are large. The staff is really having a service mind. She saw me and my sister wearing Thai costume than quite difficult to move so she give us extra desk for our bag. At first I expected nothing just want to escape heavy rain outside but turn out this restaurant is truly hidden gem 💕
Amazing little Thai spot. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and every dish was packed with flavour. You can tell a lot of care goes into the cooking — nothing felt generic or touristy. Simple, authentic Thai food done really well. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend it if you’re looking for real Thai flavours.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
