Thanam View Restaurant Ayutthaya
Sitting along Thanon Uthong in central Ayutthaya, this mid-range riverside restaurant earns its following with a combination of views, atmosphere, and solid Thai cooking. Diners can see Ayutthaya's ancient temple ruins directly across the water, making it a natural stop for travellers spending the day among the historical sites. Live music plays daily, adding to an atmosphere that reviewers consistently describe as pleasant, if somewhat Western in style rather than traditionally local. The menu is extensive, and the grilled river prawns stand out as the dish most frequently praised by visitors — noted for their size and quality. The food is generally well-regarded, though reviewers suggest keeping expectations calibrated: the kitchen delivers reliable, enjoyable meals rather than the more intense flavours found at street food stalls. Service is friendly and the setting suits everything from a casual lunch to a special occasion dinner. Good to know: the restaurant draws crowds, particularly around public holidays such as New Year, so expect busier service during peak periods. Securing a riverside table is not guaranteed, but temple views remain visible from most seating areas. As no official opening hours are listed online, it is worth confirming times directly before visiting, especially for early or late meals. The address on Thanon Uthong, one of Ayutthaya's main roads, makes it straightforward to locate whether arriving by tuk-tuk, bicycle, or on foot from the nearby ruins.

Visitor Reviews
The whole experience was beyond my expectations. The view is great, although we didn't have a seat by the river but still can see the temple opposite very clearly. The price is not as expensive as we thought, they are all reasonable. Food quality is like normal Thai restaurant. The vibe is good, there was a one band band live performance, his performance was good and surprisingly there's no breaktime by the time we stayed there for two hours... The service is good, majority of the customers are Thais and a bit of foreigners like us, they are polite and attentive even the food runner, I'm impressed Overall a good dinner will recommend it if you visit Ayutthaya for a nice chill evening
Delicious food we had at this restaurant, and it was a very special occasion, because I proposed my girlfriend here. 💍 The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Recommending this place for everyone! 🙂
Great food, good service and good atmosphere. The grilled river prawns are recommended. They have live music daily and the musicians are good too.
Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
