Toys Ayutthaya
Situated on Maha Raj Road in central Ayutthaya, this casual bar and restaurant draws a lively mix of locals and travellers looking to wind down after a day among the city's ancient temples. It has earned a warm reputation for its unpretentious atmosphere and genuinely friendly crowd — visitors consistently note feeling welcomed by locals, making it a rare spot where genuine cross-cultural socialising happens naturally. The venue offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with reviewers favouring the outside area for its more relaxed feel. Live music is a regular feature, with performers leaning toward Thai songs that give the evening an authentic local character rather than a tourist-bar feel. Food and drinks are both available, with the food receiving stronger praise than the drinks. Coffee is also on the menu, alongside free Wi-Fi and ample parking — making it a flexible stop whether guests are settling in for the evening or just passing through. The atmosphere tends to be lively and popular with a younger Thai crowd. Good to know: opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth asking locally or checking with your accommodation before heading out. The outdoor seating is the preferred option according to several visitors, particularly when the live band is playing inside and the noise level rises. For those spending multiple nights in Ayutthaya, this venue works well as a relaxed evening anchor rather than a standalone destination.

Great bar in the centre of Ayutthaya. We stumbled across The Story one evening, we were the only westerners in there and we’ve never had such a warm welcome! The locals were friendly, funny and loved to chat (and drink!). A very memorable night out! Recommended!

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
