Ram Bar Chiangmai

4.5(1,042 reviews)$$$$

Ram Bar is one of Chiang Mai's most talked-about nightlife spots, built around a nightly drag show that draws a genuinely mixed crowd of backpackers, expats, locals, and LGBTQ visitors. The inclusive atmosphere is a defining feature, with both the ownership and staff noted for their warmth even when the venue is packed to capacity. The headline act is the live drag show, which runs twice each night. The first performance typically begins around 9:30 to 9:45 PM and runs for roughly 45 minutes, followed by a short break before a second, different show kicks off around 11 PM. Visitors consistently praise the quality of the performers, with several noting the acts hold their own against anything on offer in Bangkok. There is no entrance fee, though tipping the performers is welcomed. Drinks are priced slightly above the Chiang Mai average, which is worth bearing in mind for budget travellers, though most find the entertainment justifies the cost. Good to know: The bar fills up quickly on show nights, so arriving before 9:30 PM is advisable to secure a good spot. Ram Bar does not have a listed website or confirmed opening hours, so it is worth checking locally on the day of your visit or simply arriving in the early evening to get settled before the first show begins.

Visitor Reviews

Omg they hosted the BEST drag show I have ever seen in my life. This bar was packed, great vibes, and good music. The staff was amazing and we all had a wonderful time. The drinks are on the pricey side here but it is what it is. It didn’t spoil our time.

Most of the bar , straight or LGBTQ , this place very friendly environment for everyone, the owner and staff superb hospitality, sometimes busy but they still looking for you and serving nice drinks BUT THE MIST I LIKE IS THEIR RESTROOM!! so if the restroom are so clean looks so luxury we don’t need to worry about the standard!! Highly recommended !!

Awesome and fun show! Starts at 9:45 and lasts for 45 min, then after a short break they do another 45 min (different show). There’s no entrance fee, though they accept tips and drinks are a bit more expensive but that didn’t bother me at all considering how much fun I had!

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars

Carry Your Passport or a Copy

Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.

Know the Closing Times

Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.

Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously

Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
