White Market

4.6(1,464 reviews)

Come hungry, and come early. This is the night market I'd point people towards if they've done Fisherman's Village and found it a bit polished for their liking. Roughly half the crowd here is Thai, which tells you most of what you need to know about the pricing and the cooking. Doors open at 3pm and it runs to 11pm, seven days a week, but the market only really wakes up once the heat drops.

Food is the reason to go. Regulars talk about the fresh spring rolls, gyoza, yellow noodles, pad kra pao, and a burger somewhere in the 80 to 90 baht range. The bingsu, shaved ice that's light rather than heavy, gets its own fan club. There's plenty of seating spread through the site, and the place stays reasonably tidy, though eating outdoors on Samui means the odd fly around the tables. A handful of clothing and accessory stalls fill in the gaps between kitchens if you fancy a browse.

Our favorite market in Koh Samui. Besides tourists, locals also eat here. The selection is wide and the prices are good. Our favorites are fresh spring rolls, the burger (around 80–90 baht), gyoza, bingsu (a must-try, light, airy shaved ice), yellow noodles, and pad kra pao. We visited on several evenings and were satisfied every time.

I stay nearby and this quickly became my go-to night market. I usually come here for sweets, but they have a huge variety of everything. The place is tidy and quite clean. About 50/50 of Thais and tourists, which is a very good sign 😁

Definitely worth visiting. Clean place for street food, many seating, some flies though. Grab taxi or bike pick up at 7-eleven nearby.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls

Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
