Makro Foodservice
This large wholesale hypermarket in the Bo Put area of Koh Samui serves both local businesses and individual shoppers looking to stock up on groceries, fresh produce, and foodservice supplies at competitive prices. The store carries an impressive range of fresh fruit, vegetables, local and international meats, seafood, cheeses, and frozen goods, alongside cooking utensils and general provisions — making it one of the more comprehensive big-box shopping options on the island. The atmosphere is functional and no-frills, oriented toward value and volume rather than the tourist experience. Shoppers can expect wide aisles, a well-stocked freezer section, and a solid selection of both local Thai products and international imports. While bulk quantities are the norm, individual travellers can generally purchase smaller amounts across most categories. The liquor section in particular draws positive attention for its pricing. A practical note for visitors: payment options are limited to cash or specific credit cards, so it is worth coming prepared. The store suits travellers staying in self-catering villas or longer-term accommodation particularly well, though anyone seeking good prices on groceries, snacks, or beverages will find it worthwhile. Arriving earlier in the day is advisable for the best selection of fresh goods.

Visitor Reviews
Makro in Koh Samui – Surprisingly Great for Everyday Shopping! Makro on Koh Samui is one of those unexpected gems that truly delivers more than you’d imagine. While it’s known as a wholesale warehouse for businesses, it’s open to everyone—no membership required. With two main locations on the island (Chaweng and Lamai), Makro offers a massive selection of fresh produce, meats, seafood, frozen foods, snacks, beverages, cleaning products, and even electronics and office supplies. The store layout is spacious and well-organized, and despite its “bulk shopping” reputation, many items are available in consumer-friendly portions. Prices are often significantly lower than smaller grocery stores or tourist-area markets, making it ideal for longer stays or self-catering travelers. The quality of meat, cheese, and imported goods is impressive, and there’s even a decent selection of wines and spirits. One of the best parts? Free parking, quick checkouts, and air-conditioning that makes your shopping trip much more comfortable in the tropical heat. Whether you’re stocking up for a villa, running a small business, or just looking to save on everyday essentials, Makro is definitely worth a visit. If you’re staying in Chaweng, Bo Phut, or Lamai, chances are you’re just a short drive away from one of their locations. Many tourists who stumble in expecting just a big-box store leave impressed by the value and variety. Unexpected, yes—but genuinely great.
Lots of variety in the fresh fruit and veg sections, equally good selection of both local and international meats and cheeses. Very reasonable on prices across the store and you can buy things in bulk. The bakery section could be bigger.
Large, well stocked store with limited choices. Good freezer section and among the best liquor prices. This is the best "big box" choice in Koh Samui in my opinion.
Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
