Banyan Market: 10 restaurants under the Magic Tree
Tucked into the Bo Put neighbourhood of Koh Samui, this open-air food market brings together around eight to ten food stalls and small restaurants beneath the canopy of a large heritage banyan tree. The setting is the draw as much as the food — the tree creates a natural, shaded gathering space with genuine atmosphere, making it feel distinct from the island's more conventional dining options. Live music, including jazz performances, occasionally adds to the ambience on any given evening. The vendor lineup covers a broad range of cuisines and dietary needs, with options spanning Thai food, grills, sushi, sandwiches, burgers, and dedicated vegetarian and vegan offerings. Visitors note that the menu is oriented largely toward international tastes, making it a comfortable choice for travellers who want variety without committing to a single kitchen. Desserts and specialty drinks round out the selection, and a bar serves those who come primarily to linger rather than eat a full meal. Good to know: Banyan Market opens daily at noon and stays open until 11:00 PM, covering everything from a casual lunch to a late dinner. The venue can be a little tricky to find on first visit, so checking the address or website before heading out is worthwhile. Arriving on the earlier side of the evening gives a more relaxed pace, while later visits may coincide with live entertainment.

Visitor Reviews
We have been here about five times, tonight Khun Pui was playing Jazz with his band. We ate from the Grill and Sushi place and drinks for the bar. It is such a lovely setting there, great staff, so much food choice. Amazing host Gregory. Aways a happy space day or night.
I love to chill in this place ! Very nice atmosphere! I love service and all the food and drinks ! Awesome place ! They have all what I like ! Thank you ! In vegetarian cafe and bar everything is perfect ! In sushi I fell that rolls are very big for me ,but still tasty
A wonderful small food market with a few types of tastey foods and dessert options. We had the Vegan sweetheart shake and the Eggoist egg sandwich and they were both delicious! Nice atmosphere 👌

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
