Saturday is the only night this happens, so build your Khon Kaen weekend around it or miss it entirely. From 17:00 to 22:00, Na Soon Rachakarn Road in Nai Mueang closes to cars and fills up with vendors selling food, clothes, handicrafts and local goods. It's an ordinary city street the rest of the week, which is part of the appeal.
What makes it worth your time is that the crowd is mostly local. Prices reflect that. So does the food, which leans heavily Isan and Thai, and eating your way down the street is really the point of coming. I wouldn't come here shopping for souvenirs with a list in hand. Come hungry, walk slowly, buy what looks good.
Go early, around five or six, if you want room to move and a proper look at the stalls. Go after seven if you want it loud and packed. Both are fine, they're just different evenings.
