Come for breakfast and produce, not for souvenirs. This is Mae Nam's neighbourhood market, the kind of place where people do their weekly shop, and the appeal is exactly that. Tropical fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices, curry pastes, tofu, bean sprouts, homemade snacks and Thai desserts. Three stalls press fresh coconut milk, which saves a lot of work if you cook. Drinking coconuts run around 10 to 20 baht, cheaper than most places on the island.
The eating is the reason I'd go. There's a little stall over by the clothes section doing half-boiled eggs to your liking with local coffee, and a handful of breakfast, tea and shake booths nearby. Prices are fair and nobody's working you for a sale.
One honest caveat. Meat and seafood sit out unrefrigerated, no ice, and reviewers mention flies. That's normal for a Thai fresh market, but if it bothers you, stick to fruit and veg and eat where the food's cooked in front of you. The seafood selection is small anyway.

Fantastic fresh market! The feeling of real Thailand for me. A great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, fish and meat, tofu, bean sprouts and so much more. Three booths sell fresh coconut milk, so delicious and saves you alot of work if you make it yourself. Drinking coconuts are in abundance too and the cheapest we found in Samui (10/15/20 baht) Few Breakfast/ tea/ coffee/ shakes stalls, all smells great. Some traditional Thai dessert booths as well. The restroom near parking lot is very clean (and free). Enough space to park your bike around the market or parking lot. There's a traffic policeman outside the market, very helpful. Perfect morning market, another strong reason that makes me wish I lived here. I was too shy to take photos 🙈
Great local market for fruit and veg ope from very early with some prepared food choices as well. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area
Good choice of local fresh produce. A few eateries are there too offering local fare. Suitable for a local breakfast. Try the local coffee and half-boiled eggs done to your liking (a little stall at the garment's section).
