Paifah hostel

4.7(64 reviews)

Tucked along Chaisongkram Road in the heart of Pai, this small family-run hostel has built a loyal following among budget travellers drawn as much by its community feel as its affordable rates. The hostel is known for its exceptionally welcoming hosts — most notably Momo, a hands-on owner who cooks family dinners for guests and goes out of his way to make visitors feel at home. That personal touch is consistently what sets Paifah apart from larger, more polished accommodation options in town. The atmosphere here is relaxed and social, making it a natural fit for solo travellers and backpackers looking to connect with others. Guests regularly highlight the good value for money, comfortable beds, and the hostel's unpretentious, lived-in charm. It is the kind of place where the experience is shaped more by the people than the facilities. Prospective guests should note that reviews are somewhat mixed on cleanliness and security, with at least one reviewer raising concerns about the absence of locker locks. Travellers carrying valuables such as passports or laptops may want to confirm current security arrangements before booking. Paifah suits those who prioritise character, warmth, and affordability over hotel-standard amenities — and who are happy to embrace the rougher edges of a genuinely independent hostel experience.

Visitor Reviews

This hostel is amazing! We came across it randomly through a recommendation, and I’m so glad we decided to stay here. Lee and Catherine, the hostel staff, were incredibly kind, helpful, and generous. Lee was always cooking in the kitchen and happily sharing food with everyone. The atmosphere was very social, and there’s a great outdoor area to relax or get some work done. We stayed in a six-person room, and although the beds were a bit firm, there was plenty of space, along with lockers and privacy curtains. We originally planned to stay in Pai for just a few days, but we kept extending our stay because we enjoyed it so much. It was also a bonus that the hostel offered bike rentals. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and really loved our stay.

The most memorable hostel you’ll ever stay at. Not because it has the comfiest beds, nor the cleanest bathrooms, but because it has an unmistakable charm you will struggle to find at any other hostel. The *free* family dinners are probably the highlight - they’re cooked with so much love and there’s always more then enough food to go round. Momo, Ying and Dew will take good care of you and will regularly do guided tours to some of Pai’s most iconic spots. Can’t express how much love I have for this hostel - can’t wait to come back! #albania

The most lovely and family run hostel. Momo took such great care of us, he truly cares so much for his guests, he treats you like family. This hostel is such good value for money, super clean and beds are so nice, 24hr aircon really tops it off. Location is perfect not loud but so close to walking street. Please come stay here and visit this lovely hostel.

Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts

Book Shoulder Season

May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.

Compare OTAs and Direct Rates

Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive

Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
