Happy House Backpackers
Compare prices
Tucked in the laid-back town of Pai in northern Thailand's Mae Hong Son province, Happy House Backpackers is a family-run hostel offering both private rooms and dormitories in a setting that consistently wins over solo travellers and backpackers alike. The property combines casual, comfortable accommodation with an on-site bar and restaurant, giving guests little reason to venture far in the evenings. What sets Happy House apart is its atmosphere. Guests frequently describe it as feeling more like a home than a hostel, with staff who go noticeably beyond standard hospitality — from personally guiding visitors around Pai to hands-on care when travellers find themselves in a pinch. The social spaces encourage genuine connection, striking a balance between lively and welcoming without tipping into full party-hostel territory. It draws a crowd that tends to stay longer than planned. Good to know: the hostel opens daily at 08:30 and operates until midnight, giving guests plenty of flexibility. Bookings can be made directly through the property's reservation portal. Pai itself is best visited between November and February during the cool dry season, when the mountain air is crisp and road conditions are at their most reliable. Given the hostel's reputation and small-town setting, booking ahead is advisable during peak season, particularly around the Thai holiday periods when Pai sees a significant surge in visitors.

Visitor Reviews
Amazing hostel experience, honestly the best hostel experience I've ever had. First of all, the staff was AMAZING. Juju specifically made our trip incredible, and showed us around all of Pai and the surrounding areas. The hostel is super clean, the bathroom is nice, the rooms are nice, and the common area is really fun to hang out in. It's a friendly hostel, but not too much of a party hostel (a perfect in between) plus they have super cute kittens running around. Overall it was honestly the best experience I've ever had, and was my favorite part of being in Thailand thus far. Thank you happy house for a wonderful stay!
Amazing stay at happy house! Great social vibe without being a party hostel. Felt like a family! I had a motorbike crash and the owner Em cleaned me up every day and bandaged me up without me even asking for help. Really appreciated my stay here. 10/10 would recommend!
Happy house has been my favourite hostel stay so far. would highly recommend it to solo travellers as it has an amazing community and family like environment to be in. Quiet but not too far from the party scene and walking street. A perfect hostel all round.
