The Hidden Gem Krabi
Tucked away in the Nong Thale area outside Krabi town, this open-air bar and restaurant earns its name by delivering a genuinely off-the-beaten-path experience. Set amid lush surroundings that visitors describe as feeling like dining in a jungle, it draws a relaxed, mixed crowd of locals and travellers who have typically been tipped off by word of mouth rather than stumbling across it by chance. The atmosphere is a clear highlight — laid-back and authentic, with sea views and a reputation for spectacular sunsets that draw many guests specifically for the evening light. Live music adds to the vibe on certain visits, and the overall setting is consistently described as the opposite of a tourist trap. Beyond the ambience, the Thai food receives strong praise in its own right, and the bar offering makes it equally suitable as a spot to linger over drinks after eating. Good to know: The restaurant opens daily from 12:00 to 21:00, but arriving well before sunset is recommended to secure a good spot and make the most of the views — guests who arrived after dark still found the atmosphere enjoyable, but the sunset is considered a centrepiece of the experience. There is no website, so visiting in person or asking locally for directions is the most reliable approach. Prices are noted by some visitors as slightly higher than typical Krabi dining, which is worth factoring in before you go.

Visitor Reviews
We unfortunately arrived after sunset due to other commitments, but even so, Hidden Gem truly lived up to its name. The atmosphere was still very cute and incredibly relaxing, with a calm, almost magical feel to it. The walk to the restaurant itself is charming and a little mysterious, adding to the whole experience before you even sit down. The food was outstanding — full of flavour, beautifully balanced, and not heavy or swimming in oil at all. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. As a vegan, I was really happy to see good vegan options on the menu, which were just as delicious and satisfying. The service was excellent from start to finish — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. At the end of the evening, the staff even helped us arrange a taxi, which was much appreciated. A truly lovely spot with great food, great service, and a peaceful ambience. Highly recommended if you’re in Krabi.
The location is spectacular and you really feel that you are in a hidden away place. The atmosphere is very laid back and authentic, the furthest away from a tourist trap you can imagine. The food and drinks were excellent and service was very personal. We (a family of four) took a boat trip from Klong Muang beach to see some sights and stopped here for lunch. I wish I had more days left so I could experience a sunset here. ❤️
Amazing view of the sunset! Nice drinks and wonderful wonderful music indeed. The vibe was above and beyond my expectations. Prices are a little higher than expected. Lovely services and I highly recommend coming over for an evening or afternoon chill vibe. This area is more of a fishing boat parking lot and the tide out pushes the water so far from the cafe but still the views are 5 stars.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
