Baan Boo Loo

4.8(197 reviews)

Tucked into the historic heart of Chiang Mai's Si Phum neighbourhood, Baan Boo Loo is a traditional Thai family home that has been lovingly converted into a boutique guesthouse by the same family who has called it home for generations. The property features Thai-style decor, rooms with verandas, hot tubs, and open-air bathrooms, all arranged around a courtyard that visitors consistently describe as a striking, peaceful retreat from the city beyond the gate. What sets Baan Boo Loo apart is the genuine hospitality of the host family, led by Aunya, her brother Ton, and their staff. Guests are welcomed with a personal warmth that feels more like staying with family than checking into a hotel. Breakfast is home-cooked and changes daily, adding a distinctive local touch that larger properties rarely offer. The combination of intimate scale, authentic atmosphere, and attentive service makes it particularly well-suited to couples and travellers seeking a meaningful connection to Chiang Mai rather than a standard hotel experience. The property is open daily from 07:00 to 22:00, so guests should plan arrivals accordingly and contact the team in advance if a late check-in is anticipated. Given the small and intimate nature of the guesthouse, rooms are likely to fill quickly, especially during Chiang Mai's peak travel season between November and February. Early booking is strongly advisable.

I couldn't leave my stay at the Baan Boo Loo without saying how amazing the hotel is and even more amazing, the family who runs the property! Aunya, her brothers, and the staff are warm, kind, and generous people who treated us like family and made our stay incredibly memorable. Aunya was so attentive and was always on hand to answer questions, give recommendations, and book transport and spas! Photos aren't enough to show the unique beauty, care, and love that went into designing the traditional Thai style rooms and the intricate decor. My husband wasn't sure when we initially booked because he thought the outdoor style would mean the spaces would be hot and full of bugs, but he quickly changed his mind once we got there. The rooms are very comfortable and the whole property feels like a hidden oasis. We both agree Baan Boo Loo was the highlight of our trip. We stayed in the master owner penthouse suite which has an ensuite bedroom on the ground-floor and a staircase leading up to another ensuite bedroom. One of our favourite parts was the direct access to the dining/kitchen area via our own private door. It was the most relaxing feeling to come out of the private entrance in our pajamas to eat the best breakfasts of our entire stay in Thailand. Every morning, there was a stunning spread of traditional Thai home-cooked dishes, fresh fruits, and western options. The menu changes everyday, and we were genuinely so excited to see what was for breakfast every morning. I mentioned the delicious jam to Aunya, and she gifted me a bottle of it on our last day 😭❤️. My only complaint...we didn't stay long enough! Thank you for taking such good care of us and making our stay so memorable. We will be sure to visit again one day! With love, Diana and Joel x

Baan Boo Loo is a historical family home converted by the same family into an intimate yet still spacious and private hotel. It provided us with undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable experiences we’ve had at a hotel. Nestled in the sanctuary of its own green canopy, Baan Boo Loo offers true respite and relief smack dab in the Old City of wonderful Chiang Mai. While taking sunsets on the upstairs deck with a cold beer from the community fridge (honor system applies) are achingly beautiful, what we enjoyed most was supremely exceptional service provided by Aunya and her family. Their morning, from the home-kitchen-breakfast is sublime and wholeheartedly the perfect way to begin a Chiang Mai (tourist) Day. The community tea bar offers a plethora of local, organic tea. Aunya is an exceptional host. Her and her family made us not only feel welcomed but truly cared for like a guest in their family home. Her recommendations were spot on and she arranged all transport during our stay, including transport from and back to the airport. Special mention and thanks to Aunya for shipping my left behind eyeglasses (and case) within a mere hour of their discovery in our room, and having the very same eyeglasses (and case) somehow arrive two days later at our next stay. The discovery of the left behind eyeglasses(and case) happened at the airport and by the time we were taxing for departure to Krabi Airport the eyeglasses(and case) were expressed shipped. Miraculous and impressive. We are grateful for our experience and most certainly plan on being back to explore more of Chiang Mai.

Baan Boo Loo is exquisite. It will take your breath away as you step across the threshold into courtyard - a slice of paradise in old Chiang Mai. Aunya and her brother Ton along with all the staff at Baan Boo Loo have made our stay here perfect and unforgettable. We had heard it was a unique place to stay but it is beyond our expectations. Auyna and Ton extended us a very warm welcome, they have been generous with their time and very informative about the city and its surroundings. The breakfasts are not simple breakfasts but some of the best food we have ever eaten, that is no exaggeration. We are foodies and food prepared freshly each day are a pleasure to eat. Ton will take you through the menu each morning and will answer questions about the herbs and spices used. The buildings and rooms are works of art in themselves, a mix of old style Thai architecture with carefully curated furniture and oh so comfy beds! We had an entire villa for a family of four. Air conditioning keeps the rooms cool and mosquito coils outside kept the bugs at bay, they were never a problem for us. If we could stay here longer than our 4 nights we would. We will definitely return.
