Railay Beach

Accessible only by longtail boat from Ao Nang, Railay is a peninsula in Krabi that feels removed from the mainland despite being just a short ride away. The defining feature of the landscape is its towering limestone karst formations, which rise directly from the water and provide a dramatic backdrop to the beach itself. The sand is primarily fine, though some areas have a mix of gravel, and the water is notably cleaner than at nearby Ao Nang. Visitors can expect a range of activities including rock climbing on the surrounding cliffs, while restaurants, bars, and coconut stands line the beach for those content to relax. Railay does attract a steady flow of visitors, and longtail boats arrive throughout the day, which can make the beach feel busy during peak hours. There is no coral reef directly at the beach, so snorkelling here offers limited marine life. The atmosphere is lively but laid-back, with facilities sufficient for a comfortable half-day or full-day visit. A practical note for travellers: arriving early in the morning helps avoid the busiest boat traffic and allows for a quieter experience on the sand. Those planning to stay beyond sunset should be aware that boat services become less frequent after around 18:00, so planning a return time in advance is advisable. Given there is no road access, all visits begin and end at the water.
