Walking in from Railay East

Railay East path

A flat concrete walkway of about 500 m runs from Railay East along the foot of the cliffs to the beach. It takes about ten minutes and is fine in flip-flops.

Viewpoint and lagoon trailhead

Partway along the path, a rope-assisted scramble up red clay leaves to the left for the East Railay viewpoint, about 15–20 minutes up, with the Princess Lagoon beyond it. The lagoon descent is the steepest part and closer to rock climbing than hiking. It needs shoes with grip and turns treacherous after rain.

Princess Cave

The Princess Cave shrine sits at the foot of the cliff at the eastern end of the beach, filled with carved wooden phalluses that fishermen leave as offerings to the sea princess Phra Nang. There is no gate and no fee.

Rayavadee frontage

Rayavadee is the only resort that opens directly onto the sand, and its cave restaurant, The Grotto, sits at the beach's edge. The beach itself has no shops, toilets or showers.

The beach and Ko Rang Nok

The sand runs west under the cliffs. Ko Rang Nok, the small island just offshore, can be reached by wading across a sandbar at low tide, or by a short swim or a kayak at high tide. Kayaks rent for about ฿200–300 an hour, and longtails anchor in the shallows selling food and drinks.

Phra Nang Cave Beach is a striking natural cove on the Railay Peninsula in Krabi, accessible only by longtail boat due to the surrounding limestone cliffs that cut it off from any road access. The beach is defined by its dramatic scenery — soft white sand, clear turquoise water, and sheer karst formations rising directly from the shoreline. Tucked into the cliff face at one end of the beach is the Phra Nang Cave Shrine, a sacred site where locals pay tribute to Phra Nang, a revered princess spirit believed to inhabit the cave. Colorful offerings, carved wooden figures, and incense create an atmosphere that is both visually striking and culturally significant, giving the beach a dimension beyond scenery alone.

As one of Krabi's most photographed natural features, the beach draws a steady crowd, particularly during the high season between November and April. Visitors can expect the sand to be busy on clear days, though the setting remains impressive regardless. Snorkeling, rock climbing on the surrounding cliffs, and kayaking are popular activities in the area. The nearby Railay Beach area offers food, drinks, and accommodation for those who want to linger.

As a practical note, there are no roads to Phra Nang Cave Beach — the only way in is by longtail boat, typically departing from Ao Nang or Railay East. There are no official opening hours, but boats generally run during daylight. Arriving early in the morning helps avoid the peak crowds and gives visitors a quieter experience of both the beach and the shrine.
