Elephant Wildlife Sanctuary

I visited here on vacation with my mom, and we were initially a bit skeptical since some places don’t always treat animals well. But after doing our research and reading the reviews, we decided to go — and I would go back in a heartbeat! The staff was incredible, especially our guide, Natthaphat. He was so knowledgeable about the elephants and incredibly kind. Honestly, I think he could’ve been a professional photographer — he took so many amazing photos for us throughout the experience! I was also really impressed by how attentive the staff was to families. They went above and beyond to make sure kids felt safe while parents could still relax and enjoy the visit. We even got one-on-one time with Bruno, one of the elephants, who was so playful and clearly adored by his handler. You can really feel how much they care for these animals. I guess we can talk about Bruno now. Next time I’m in Phuket, I’ll definitely be coming back!

I would recommend this adventure with a purpose to everyone. You can choose your adventure 2 or 4 hours. You help chop up the treats you'll feed them. You scrub the elephants down with a clay rub, shower them off, and get in the pool to rinse them off. It's a once in a lifetime experience. It'll leave you with your heart full of love for the elephants and the people who take care of them.

This sanctuary is not a 5-star, luxury showcase, and it doesn’t try to be. If you’re expecting a vast, zoo-scale property with endless land, manicured paths, and polished facilities, then yes — that would look different. But that doesn’t make this place unethical or neglectful. It makes it a working sanctuary, doing real care with real limits. What is provided is a good, safe, and calm environment where elephants are able to wander, roam, bathe, rest, and live without pressure. The space is practical and natural. It prioritises welfare over appearance, which matters far more than how it looks in photos. The elephants were clearly well fed, relaxed, and comfortable. There were no chains, no whips, no riding, and no performances. Their behaviour said everything — calm movements, no distress, no signs of fear or control. You cannot fake that with elephants. The staff genuinely do their best to ensure the elephants are cared for properly. Their interactions were patient, respectful, and calm. This isn’t a place where animals are rushed through for tourist volume — it’s steady, controlled, and elephant-led. The washing experience was gentle and on the elephants’ terms. They chose to enter the water, stayed relaxed, and were free to disengage at any time. It didn’t feel staged or forced — just part of normal care and relief from the heat. Visitors were also able to feed the elephants, which was done responsibly and calmly. Food was provided properly, and the elephants were never rushed or pushed. You can also purchase milk as part of the experience, but this is supplementary and optional. The elephants are clearly well fed regardless of whether tourists are present, which is obvious from their health, size, and behaviour. Some reviews online seem to expect either a fantasy version of untouched wilderness with no human interaction, or a luxury zoo-style sanctuary. This place sits in the real world — where rescued elephants need land, food, staff, vets, and daily care. Most importantly, these elephants are safe, protected, fed, and treated with respect. They are not exploited, controlled, or harmed — and in a world where that still happens far too often, that matters. Come with realistic expectations, an open mind, and respect for the reality of animal rescue. If you care about actual welfare and outcomes, this sanctuary delivers.
