Phangan Elephant Sanctuary is a non-profit organization on Koh Pha-ngan dedicated to rescuing elephants from lives of forced entertainment and providing them with a rehabilitation environment centered on their wellbeing. Home to three rescued elephants, the sanctuary represents a genuine alternative to conventional elephant tourism, with its care-first approach evident in the animals' relaxed and trusting behavior around visitors and staff alike.
Visits center on close, hands-on interaction in a natural setting. Guests prepare and hand-feed food directly to the elephants, walk alongside them through the grounds, and learn about each animal's individual history and personality from knowledgeable guides. Staff take time to explain safe interaction and the sanctuary's ongoing rescue and rehabilitation work, giving the experience both an educational and deeply personal quality that families and solo travelers tend to find equally rewarding. Sessions run for approximately one hour, making it a manageable activity within a broader day of exploring the island.

It’s a special opportunity to be able to visit this elephant sanctuary. The elephants are rescued from their life of being subjected as entertainment objects. The sanctuary has to buy these elephants from their previous owners. It’s heartwarming to know that they are living a better life for their golden age. There are a total of 5 rescued elephants here. In the program, we are able to feed the elephants and take some photos with them. The sanctuary is very nicely kept and maintained and it felt like a really nice environment. Snacks and drinks are provided for tourists. Tickets are pricy but worth it when you know that it’s being paid towards the sanctuary’s mission. Entrance to the sanctuary is by appointment only. They do not accept walk ins so please do visit their website for information.
This was an amazing experience and place to visit. I came here with my friends and we had the opportunity to meet and feed three elephants. The people running the place very super friendly and gave us so much information about what they do and how they rescue the elephants. Great experience and would highly recommend it to anyone who love animals. They also have a cozy chill space with hammocks and egg chairs, where you can sit and watch the elephants.
Absolutely amazing experience. This is a REAL sanctuary. Our guide came from the north and she was so good with the elephants. Taking them on a walk through the park was one of the best parts and feeding them! Loved staying after and drinking coffee. I could do this tour every morning!
