Koh Phi Phi to Koh Lanta Ferry

Thirty minutes by speedboat, and one boat still sails in the monsoon.

Take the Speedboat, It's 30 Minutes

Koh Phi Phi to Koh Lanta is the shortest hop on the Andaman coast, about 30 km from Tonsai pier to Saladan pier at Lanta's north tip. From November to April about a dozen boats make it every day. Speedboats leave Tonsai from 09:30 to 15:30 and take about 30 minutes for about ฿550–790, and the slower ferries leave at 11:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 16:00 and take about an hour for about ฿600.

I'd book Bundhaya's speedboat. It sails at 09:30, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:30 for ฿700, and it keeps going in the rainy season, when its 11:00 is the one speedboat still on the timetable. For about ฿100 more, several tickets include a van from Saladan to your hotel, which is worth it because most of Lanta's beaches are a long drive south of the pier. Below you'll find every departure by operator, the low-season boat, the direct boats from Laem Tong, and what to do when you land.

The short answer

Take a speedboat from Tonsai pier to Saladan pier. It's about 30 minutes, boats leave between 09:30 and 15:30, and Bundhaya's costs ฿700 (about ฿740 on 12Go), or about ฿845 with a van to your Lanta hotel. The ferries take about an hour for about ฿600, at 11:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 16:00. From May to mid-October, plan on Bundhaya's 11:00, the one boat that runs every day.

Key Facts (2026)

Speedboats take about 30 minutes, ฿550–790

Bundhaya at 09:30, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:30 (฿700 at the operator), Satun Pakbara at 09:30, 12:00 and 13:30, Tigerline at 09:30, 12:30 and 14:30, plus Andaman Wave Master at 10:30 and PP Cabana at 10:45.

Ferries take about an hour, about ฿600

Chaokoh at 11:00 and 14:00 and Lanta Petpailin at 11:30 and 16:00. They're the steadier ride on a choppy day and the cheapest seats after Tigerline's.

May to mid-October, count on one boat

Bundhaya's own booking system shows a single speedboat, at 11:00, on a June date, against four from mid-October. 12Go also lists Chaokoh's ferry in June, but book the day before and expect cancellations in a swell.

Every boat lands at Saladan

That's Lanta's north tip. Klong Dao is about 2 km away, the southern beaches much further, and a tuk-tuk from Saladan to Kantiang costs about ฿400–800, so a ticket with a hotel van saves money if you're staying south.

From Laem Tong, there's a direct boat

Andaman Wave Master's speedboat leaves Laem Tong beach at 09:30, calls at Tonsai and reaches Saladan at about 11:05, for about ฿1,050. No longtail back to Tonsai needed.

No fee to leave Phi Phi

The ฿20 island fee is paid when you land at Tonsai, not when you leave. Be at the pier 30 minutes before your boat.

Speedboat or Ferry

Half an hour against an hour, for about the same money

On this hop the speedboat barely costs more than the ferry, so I'd take it unless the sea is up. Bundhaya's four boats a day are the backbone, at 09:30, 11:00, 13:00 and 15:30 for ฿700 (children ฿400) on its own site, landing 30 minutes later. Satun Pakbara and Tigerline fill the gaps on the same 30-minute run, Tigerline being the cheapest seat on 12Go at about ฿550, and Andaman Wave Master's 10:30 and PP Cabana's 10:45 add two more mid-morning.

The ferries are big, slow and steady. Chaokoh sails at 11:00 and 14:00 and Lanta Petpailin at 11:30 and 16:00, about an hour for about ฿600, with air-conditioned cabins and an open deck. On a rough morning a ferry rolls far less than a speedboat, and Petpailin's 16:00 is the last boat of the day if you want a full last morning on Phi Phi.

In the Rainy Season, One Boat a Day

Bundhaya's 11:00 keeps running from May to mid-October

Most of the boats on this hop are high-season boats. Bundhaya's booking system shows four departures from mid-October through the winter and just one, the 11:00, on a June date. 12Go's June listing adds Chaokoh's ferry at 11:00 and 14:00 and some resold speedboats, but Satun Pakbara, Tigerline, Petpailin and Andaman Wave Master all drop off it. So in the rainy season I'd plan on the 11:00 and book it the day before.

September and October are the wettest months on this coast, at about 336–350 mm of rain a month at the Phuket station, and a swell can cancel the speedboat outright. If it doesn't sail, the way round is the boat to Krabi and a van down to Lanta, which takes most of a day but doesn't depend on the weather.

Leaving From Laem Tong

Andaman Wave Master picks up on the beach

If you're staying at Laem Tong at Phi Phi's northern tip, you don't need a longtail back to Tonsai. Andaman Wave Master's speedboat leaves Laem Tong at 09:30, calls at Tonsai at 10:30 and reaches Saladan at about 11:05, for about ฿1,050 from the beach. 12Go lists it from early November; the operator's own Lanta legs have been shorter-season in the past, so confirm with your hotel the day before.

Landing at Saladan

Get the hotel van in the ticket if you're staying south

Every boat from Phi Phi lands at Saladan pier on Lanta's northern tip. Klong Dao beach is about 2 km away, but the island is more than 30 km long, and Long Beach, Klong Khong and Kantiang are a drive south. Tuk-tuks with sidecars wait at the pier and charge about ฿400–800 to the south of the island, and Grab barely operates, so the cheapest move is a ticket that includes the van. Bundhaya sells its speedboat with a hotel drop for about ฿845 on 12Go, about ฿100 more than the boat alone, Tigerline's speedboat and van is about ฿600, and Jijie's ferry or speedboat with a hotel shuttle is about ฿950–1,300.

Going On From Koh Lanta

South to Lipe, back to Krabi, or across to Phuket

Lanta is where the island hop usually turns. From 15 October to 20 May, Bundhaya's speedboat leaves Saladan at 10:30 for the Trang islands and Koh Lipe (฿1,700, about three hours), with a second boat at 12:30 from November; the Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe guide has every stop. For a flight, minivans leave hourly from about 06:00 to 16:00 for Krabi airport, about 2–2.5 hours (Koh Lanta to Krabi), and speedboats cross to Rassada pier in Phuket in about 1 hour 30 all year (Koh Lanta to Phuket).

Going the Other Way, Koh Lanta to Phi Phi

Boats from 08:00 to 16:00, and the day trip

Going back, boats leave Saladan from 08:00 (the Petpailin ferry) to 16:00 (Tigerline), with Bundhaya at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:30. My Koh Lanta to Phi Phi guide has every departure, the rainy-season boat, and how to see Phi Phi in a day from Lanta.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Koh Phi Phi to Koh Lanta Ferry.

By boat from Tonsai pier to Saladan pier. Speedboats take about 30 minutes and leave from 09:30 to 15:30 for about ฿550–790; ferries take about an hour and leave at 11:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 16:00 for about ฿600. There's no other way, since neither island has an airport or a road link to the other.

About an hour on the Chaokoh and Lanta Petpailin ferries and about 30 minutes by speedboat. From Laem Tong, Andaman Wave Master's speedboat takes about 1 hour 35, because it calls at Tonsai first.

About ฿600–640 on the ferries and ฿550–790 by speedboat, with Bundhaya's ฿700 (children ฿400) at the operator and about ฿740 on 12Go. A ticket with a van to your Lanta hotel costs about ฿600–1,300.

One does. Bundhaya's 11:00 speedboat runs all year, and from May to mid-October it's the one boat its booking system shows. 12Go also lists Chaokoh's ferry in June. The other speedboats and ferries are high-season boats, and rough seas can cancel sailings in September and October.

The Lanta Petpailin ferry at 16:00, arriving about 17:00. The last speedboat is Bundhaya's 15:30. In the rainy season the only scheduled boat is Bundhaya's 11:00.

About 30 km in a straight line from Tonsai pier to Saladan pier, which is why the speedboat takes only 30 minutes.

At Saladan pier on the island's northern tip. Klong Dao is about 2 km away; a tuk-tuk to Kantiang in the south costs about ฿400–800, so a ticket with a hotel van is worth the extra ฿100 or so.

A day ahead is enough most of the year, and a few days ahead in late December and January. In the rainy season book the 11:00 the day before, because it's the only boat.

Yes, as the slow half of the trip. Phi Phi has the famous bays; Lanta has long, quiet beaches, calm water for kids and lower prices. The Phi Phi vs Koh Lanta comparison weighs the two, and the Koh Lanta travel guide picks the beach.
