Windmill Viewpoint
Perched in the Rawai area of southern Phuket, Windmill Viewpoint offers panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and surrounding coastline that rival — and according to many visitors, surpass — the island's more well-known vantage points. While spots like Karon Viewpoint and Promthep Cape draw consistent crowds, this hilltop lookout tends to attract far fewer visitors, giving it a noticeably more relaxed and unhurried atmosphere. A small kiosk is on site, and the location is accessible by road. The viewpoint earns its reputation most strongly as a sunset destination. The combination of elevated ocean views, open sky, and steady sea breezes makes it a natural gathering point in the late afternoon, though visits at other times of day are equally rewarding for those seeking solitude and scenery. The site is open around the clock, so early morning visits are also an option for those looking to avoid any evening crowds. From a practical standpoint, there is no formal seating or shaded waiting area, so visitors planning to spend time here are advised to bring a mat or something to sit on. Arriving slightly after the peak sunset hour is a reasonable strategy for those who prefer a quieter experience, and reviews suggest the atmosphere remains pleasant well into the evening. There is no entrance fee reported by visitors.

Visitor Reviews
Windmill Viewpoint in Phuket is truly one of the best hidden gems on the island. Unlike the more crowded Karon Viewpoint, this place feels underrated and far less touristy, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. The view here is absolutely stunning – you get a perfect angle of the turquoise sea, the beach, and the surrounding hills, all blending into a breathtaking backdrop. What makes Windmill Viewpoint special is how clear and expansive the scenery is. It’s an ideal spot if you’re looking to take amazing photos, as the natural light, the sea view, and the quiet atmosphere all combine to create picture-perfect moments. Whether you’re a photography enthusiast or just someone who loves capturing memories, this viewpoint will not disappoint. The area itself is peaceful and not too commercialized, so you can actually take your time to relax and soak in the view without rushing. It’s also a great place to sit for a while and simply enjoy the calmness and beauty of Phuket’s coastline. Overall, Windmill Viewpoint is an excellent spot that deserves more recognition. If you want a clear, beautiful view of the sea with a fantastic backdrop for photos, this is definitely the place to go.
Really underrated place when it comes to sunsets in phuket. Most people will tell you of promptep cape or karon view point and while they are beautiful in their own account, nothing beats windmill Viewpoint during the peak seasons when the yacht are berthed by the sea. Getting here would be hard without your own transport as it's rather steep, but definitely worth it.
Visited in the evening rather than at sunset, so it wasn’t very crowded and there was no entrance fee. If you plan to relax here, it’s best to bring a mat, although you can also sit on the ground. Do take care, as the area is on a steep hill. The scenery is beautiful and it’s definitely one of the must-visit spots in Phuket.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
