Overlap Stone 2

4.4(1,983 reviews)

Don't try to ride up. That's the single most useful thing I can tell you about this hilltop viewpoint above Maret. The last stretch of road is dirt, switchbacked and close to vertical in places, and plenty of people who've attempted it on a scooter have regretted it. There's a free 4x4 shuttle truck from the base that runs roughly every ten minutes, and it's the sensible way to arrive. Get a taxi to the bottom, hop in the back, hang on.

At the top you pay 200 baht a head. What you get is a huge balancing rock, a genuine panorama over the coastline in both directions, and a lot of good camera angles. There's a restaurant up there too, with the view to match and prices to match the view. Some people walk the final 300 to 400 metres from the upper bike parking, which takes about ten minutes uphill. Wear proper shoes if you do.

It gets busy, so mornings are your friend. Clearer air, fewer people.

Amazing spot on top of the hill. Need to know that it’s a steep hill to drive up so if you’re driving by yourself, just be careful., if you don’t have experience driving on steep hills, better take a special taxi from the bottom. Also, it’s around 300 -400 meters to walk up a steep hill, so also best to wear sneakers. The view is incredible. It’s lots of spots for photos and videos. There is also a restaurant we haven’t tried yet but for sure I will come back one day to do that. Recommend for everyone visiting Samui to come over here and enjoy a beautiful view of the ocean.

Overlap Stone is an amazing viewpoint with breathtaking views over Koh Samui. The huge balancing rock is impressive and makes for great photos. The short hike up adds a bit of adventure, and the peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect spot to enjoy nature. Highly recommended!

An amazing place with a breathtaking view. There is also a restaurant with a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the entire Koh Samui coastline. Things to keep in mind: Getting there by car or scooter is almost impossible. The place offers free 4x4 shuttle rides that run roughly every ten minutes — this is the best way to arrive. You can drive or ride up to a certain point and then hike the rest of the way, but I don’t recommend it. The path is very challenging and not easy at all. Also, be prepared for a huge line to take the famous hand photo, especially at sunset. The wait can be at least 40 minutes, so plan accordingly. Entrance fee is 200 THB per person. I deducted one star because the restrooms were in terrible condition. If you charge 200 THB per person for entrance, the bathrooms should at least be in a reasonable condition.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
