Lanta Animal Welfare is a non-profit shelter and clinic in Sala Dan, at the north end of Koh Lanta, that rescues, treats and rehomes the island's street cats and dogs. Visitors join a small guided tour of about an hour that goes round the clinic and the animals, and the shelter also lets visitors take dogs out for a walk, which is the part most people remember.

I'd book it for a morning between beach days, or for a wet one, since most of it doesn't depend on the weather, and it suits children who are happy around animals. The gift shop's proceeds go to the animals' care.
