Sea La Vie Bar and Restaurant Koh Samui - ซีลาวีบาร์ เกาะสมุย
Tucked away in the quieter Plai Leam area of Koh Samui, this beachfront bar and restaurant has built a loyal following for its combination of stunning sunset views, well-crafted cocktails, and a menu that spans Thai classics, fusion dishes, and fresh seafood. Standout plates from visitors include the tuna tataki and Penang curry, while the bar programme features creative long cocktails alongside sangria and classic serves. The atmosphere strikes a balance between lively and relaxed, with background music kept at a sociable level and an owner and team known for attentive, personal service. Open daily from 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, the venue suits everything from a morning coffee and brunch through to a full dinner and evening drinks session. The waterfront setting makes it a natural stop for watching the sunset, and the mid-range pricing keeps it accessible without sacrificing quality or presentation. The fusion and seafood focus gives it broader appeal than a strictly Thai or strictly Western kitchen would. Good to know: The restaurant can fill up quickly when the sunset draws a crowd, and reviewers note it can run short-staffed during peak periods. Arriving slightly before sunset or booking ahead through the Facebook page is worth considering if you want a good table by the water during high season.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
