The Sunset
Perched on the beachfront in the quieter Bo Put area of Koh Samui, The Sunset draws visitors for its unobstructed views across the bay, where incoming planes descending toward Big Buddha island add an unexpected and memorable backdrop to the scenery. Open daily from noon until 10 PM, it functions equally well as a laid-back lunch spot, an afternoon drinks destination, and an evening dining venue — making it a versatile stop at any point in the day. The menu spans Western and international dishes, with visitor highlights including a garlic butter steak, a schnitzel that draws repeat visits, and chicken satay. The lava cake is a noted dessert option. The atmosphere leans casual and relaxed, with seating close to the water and a bar offering local beers, wine, and cocktails. Service is consistently described as friendly and prompt, and the setting suits couples, small groups, and solo travellers equally well. Good to know: The venue operates as both a restaurant and bar, so dropping in for drinks alone is entirely welcome. For prime sunset seating with a direct sea view, arriving early in the evening is advisable, particularly during the peak tourist season between December and February. The Bo Put location is quieter than Chaweng or Lamai, which suits those looking to avoid the busier stretches of the island. Light casual clothing is appropriate throughout the day, though a layer may be useful if staying into the later evening hours when sea breezes pick up.

Great, lovely place right by the sea. Great view, fast and friendly service. The schnitzel is the best on the island, I have to say. The salad was also delicious. We'll definitely be back! 5 stars!

I would absolutely visit
Amazing little bar, with awesome view of the bay and the incoming planes just outside the entrance to the big Buddha island. We had chicken satay and chips with a wine and Leo beer, lovely. Would I stop by again, absolutely. We had seats facing the bay and some sun on our legs at 2pm, looks like, as per the name, it’s a great spot for sunset. Clean toilets.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
