Tawan Restaurant
Tawan Restaurant and Bar sits on Sa Song Road in central Hua Hin, drawing consistent praise from visitors for its authentic, unaltered Thai cooking. The kitchen produces dishes that regulars and first-time visitors describe as full of flavour and made with care, with the chicken panang among the standout options. The bar component adds further appeal, offering well-made cocktails — including what several guests consider a genuinely crafted Cosmopolitan — alongside quality coffee from a proper espresso machine and fresh herbal teas.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with staff frequently highlighted in visitor feedback for their warmth and attentiveness. Service tends to be prompt, and the venue suits solo diners, couples, and groups equally well. The owner and chef are known to be present and hands-on, which contributes to the personal, neighbourhood-restaurant feel that distinguishes Tawan from more anonymous tourist-oriented dining spots in the area.
Open every day of the week from 8:30 AM to 10:30 PM, the restaurant covers breakfast, lunch, dinner, and post-dinner drinks without interruption. Pricing is considered reasonable relative to the quality on offer. The Facebook page is the best place to check for any updates or to make contact ahead of visiting. Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
