Pad Thai - Thai Food & Drink in Chiangrai ร้านอาหารไทยผัดไทย

4.7(795 reviews)$$$$

This no-frills Thai restaurant on Kaoloi Road in central Chiang Rai has built a strong reputation among both locals and travellers for delivering genuine, flavourful Thai cooking at budget-friendly prices. The kitchen specialises in pad Thai and traditional regional dishes, prepared fresh throughout the day in a small, casual setting. Visitors consistently highlight the generous portions and the warm, friendly welcome from the owner as standout features of the experience. The dining environment is simple and straightforward — this is a place where the food does the talking rather than the decor. Reviewers note the interior could use some attention, but the quality on the plate more than compensates. Diners have praised the pad Thai in particular for its depth of flavour, and small touches like complimentary peanuts reflect the hospitable approach that keeps people coming back. Good to know: the restaurant operates seven days a week from 08:30 to 21:30, making it one of the more flexible dining options in the area for early risers or those eating between standard meal times. There is no website and no reservation system, so all dining is walk-in only. Arriving during the mid-afternoon lull between roughly 14:00 and 17:00 is a practical way to avoid the busiest periods. Note that ride-hailing apps such as Grab may return an imprecise location, so confirming the address as 5 Kaoloi Road before departing is advisable. Cash is the safest payment option, though confirming accepted methods on arrival is recommended.

To Jessica Fernandez below: People from all countries complain about stomach aches after eating Pad Thai, but Pad Thai is typically heated to over 100 degrees Celsius. It's highly likely that you developed gastroenteritis because you didn't wash your hands. Don't expect military kitchen hygiene at your local restaurant. I see so many people skipping their vegetables and getting their hands dirty. Please eat properly. Regardless of price, don't blame the restaurant for not washing your hands. It's a real problem. Heat-based germ removal during the cooking process involves heating food at 60-80 degrees Celsius for 10-30 minutes, destroying the proteins of most foodborne pathogens and sterilizing them. Boiling water (100 degrees Celsius) kills most bacteria, but even 30 minutes at 80 degrees Celsius won't destroy Staphylococcus aureus toxins, so be careful. You didn't eat oysters or sashimi... Wash your hands properly. Blaming small business owners for not washing your hands will only hurt your business. If you're sensitive, just make it at home. By the way, they don't sell shrimp pad thai here. And the digestive system isn't sterile, so your hands are the culprit. Wash your hands well. Don't blame the small businesses. You can't even complain in your own country. Don't harass kind Thai people.

Pad Thai - Thai Food & Drink in Chiang Rai is a true culinary gem that celebrates the vibrant flavors of Thai cuisine. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting atmosphere that immediately set the tone for an incredible dining experience. I ordered their Pad Thai, and it was absolutely phenomenal. The noodles were perfectly cooked with just the right amount of chew, and the balance of flavors was spot on—sweet, tangy, savory, and a touch of spice. The fresh ingredients, including crunchy bean sprouts, zesty lime, and aromatic peanuts, elevated the dish to perfection. It’s clear that a lot of care and expertise goes into every plate they serve. Beyond the Pad Thai, the menu offers a wide range of classic Thai dishes, each prepared with authentic flavors and beautifully presented. The attention to detail and commitment to quality truly shine through in every bite. The drinks menu is equally impressive, featuring refreshing options that pair wonderfully with the food. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that my visit was comfortable and enjoyable from start to finish. Whether you’re a local or a traveler exploring Chiang Rai, this is a spot you simply can’t miss. Pad Thai - Thai Food & Drink is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic Thai cuisine. I can’t wait to return and try more of their amazing dishes. Highly recommended!

Super delicious food and friendly atmosphere! I had the pad Thai which was full of flavour. They gave me free peanuts to start and a plate of fresh food afterwards. I cannot recommend this place enough. The portion was huge and filling and the owner and son were so kind. I would always eat here!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
