ครัวป๋าแอ๊ด(Thai restaurant)
Tucked along Soi Santitham in the Rop Wiang area of Chiang Rai, this small family-run restaurant has built a loyal following among travellers and locals alike through its combination of honest home cooking and exceptional hospitality. The owner tends a backyard garden, and the vegetables grown there find their way directly into the kitchen, giving the food a freshness that reflects genuine care rather than commercial routine. Guests have returned multiple consecutive nights, working through the menu dish by dish. The atmosphere is humble and unpretentious — a casual space where the cooking is clearly the priority. Standout dishes include papaya salad and a range of traditional Thai plates prepared with authentic spicing, so those unfamiliar with true Thai heat should order with caution. Vegetarians are well catered for, with the kitchen willing to adapt dishes on request even when the menu does not specify vegetarian options. The owner's habit of sharing fruit from the garden before meals arrives as a small but memorable gesture of welcome. Good to know: The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, covering both lunch and dinner, though it appears to be closed on Fridays based on available hours data. No website or online booking is listed, so visits are walk-in only. The location on a quieter side street means it rewards those willing to navigate slightly off the main roads, accessible by tuk-tuk or motorcycle taxi from central Chiang Rai accommodations.

Visitor Reviews
The place is the perfect example of a cozy, family-run restaurant with incredible food and even better hospitality. The food was truly delicious. I made the mistake of underestimating the "Thai spicy" level I asked for, but even though my mouth was on fire, the flavors were so good I couldn't stop eating! The portions are very generous, and the prices are incredibly affordable for the quality you get. What makes this place so special, though, are the people. The owners are genuinely some of the nicest, most welcoming people I have met in a long time. We were also lucky enough to meet a local customer, Ms. Won (I hope I'm spelling that right!), who was so friendly. She recommended some dishes to us and told us a bit about the area. It felt less like being at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into a friend's home. I honestly cannot recommend this restaurant enough. If you are in Chiang Rai, whether you're a tourist or a local, you must visit. It's a 10/10 experience.
Just eaten here. Food was amazing. Really delicious. The two people cooking and serving are lovely. Will be back tomorrow! Update: we've eaten here 3 nights in a row. Every dish we've tried has been superb (pad Thai, chicken with basil, green curry, coconut and chicken soup). The hospitality of the couple who own/cook/serve is absolutely wonderful. If only every restaurant was just like this! We will be sad to leave Chiang Rai tomorrow morning and not be eating here again!
Thai hospitality at its finest! The owner is so proud of his space and gis backyard - he even gave us some of his fruit to taste before the food arrived. The restaurant itself is super humble and the prices are very very low. We had some of the best thai food here on our travels and we would go back right away!! I was do happy to find vegetarian options on their menu too. Thank you so much for having us - so happy we found this gem on Google maps.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
