The Library ChiangRai
Part of a well-regarded Thai bar chain with locations across the country, this Chiang Rai outpost brings a library-inspired concept to the city's nightlife scene. The venue draws a mixed crowd of locals, expats, and travellers, and has built a following for its relaxed yet social atmosphere — the kind of place where conversation comes easily and the design sets it apart from a typical Thai club. The real draw on a Saturday night is the live entertainment, which typically features multiple bands playing across different sessions, with Thai music earlier in the evening giving way to international sets after midnight. A resident DJ rounds out the night, known among regulars for energetic mixing that lifts the crowd. Staff are noted as attentive, and the overall vibe leans more towards a stylish late-night bar than a high-volume nightclub. The venue opens every night of the week at 8 PM and runs until 2 AM, so early arrivals can enjoy a quieter atmosphere before the bands and crowd build. Those visiting on a Saturday should aim to arrive before midnight to catch the full live music lineup. Check the website at thelibrary.bar for current event details or any special programming before heading out.

Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
