Ban Mai Market
Situated on Maekok Road in Rim Kok, Ban Mai Market is a working neighbourhood market that offers a genuine window into daily life in Chiang Rai. Unlike markets geared primarily toward tourists, this is a place where locals come to stock up for dinner, creating an authentic and unhurried atmosphere that visitors find refreshing. The market operates every day of the week, opening at noon and running through to 7 PM. Shoppers can browse a wide variety of stalls selling fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and traditional Thai snacks and cakes, alongside ready-to-eat cooked dishes and cold beverages. A small number of clothing vendors operate outside the main market hall. The produce is notably fresh, the prices are local, and the vendors are consistently described as warm and welcoming. The air carries the mingled aromas of different dishes being prepared, which adds considerably to the sensory appeal of wandering through. The market is best visited in the mid-to-late afternoon, when stalls are fully stocked, foot traffic builds, and the energy of the place is at its peak. Bringing cash is strongly advisable, as card payments are unlikely to be accepted at most stalls. Comfortable footwear is recommended, as the market terrain can be uneven in places. Those staying in the Rim Kok area will find it within easy reach, and it makes a practical and enjoyable stop for travellers exploring the broader Chiang Rai region.

Visitor Reviews
Just want to check out this market at 2:30pm to see if I can get some foods to go. There were a number of stalls of fruits, ready to eat dishes for locals. I got coconut juice, many ready made veggies, grilled meats, cut up fruits for my meal at the hotel. Very good stop for my trip here in Chiang Rai.
I like this type of place, locals busy buying cook dishes or fresh produces going home for their dinner. The air is filled by all the fabulous smells from different dishes. Price of fruits and dishes is cheap and quality.
it is crowded, it have everything such as fooo, clothes, vegetables, fish, frog, nut, traditional cakes, beverage. People here are friendly, alway smile.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
