Why go, and how to do it well
Piccolo Vicolo is the café that turns up on almost every list of beautiful cafés in Bangkok. The original branch sits inside GalileOasis, a renovated building in Ratchathewi that also holds an art space, a small theater, shops and a hotel, and the café is a vintage loft crowded with plants and old furniture, with seats inside and out. Coconut drinks are the house style, a Coconut Americano and a matcha with coconut water among them, and the cakes, banana cake and lemon tart especially, are made in house.
There are power outlets, and on a weekday morning it doubles as a quiet place to work. A second branch has opened in three old shophouses on Khlong Ong Ang in the Old Town, so check which one your map is taking you to.
It is open 09:00 to 17:00 and closed on Tuesdays. Weekday mornings are the quiet time.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
Use Grab for Delivery
The Grab app works for food delivery across Thailand, letting you order from street stalls and restaurants alike. It's invaluable on rainy days or when you want to eat in your hotel.
