Jim Thompson, A Thai Restaurant
Housed in a beautifully designed interior that blends traditional Thai aesthetics with refined elegance, this dinner-only restaurant in Pathum Wan's Kasem San area offers a considered approach to classic Thai cuisine. Connected to the wider Jim Thompson brand — renowned for its celebration of Thai heritage and craftsmanship — the restaurant brings that same attention to detail to the dining table, with a clear focus on ingredient quality and traditional preparation methods. Guests can expect attentive, professional service alongside a menu rooted in authentic Thai flavours. Visitor experiences highlight standout dishes including pomelo salad, green curry, and a Thai-spiced Wagyu beef preparation known as Nua Yarng Gaeng Nob, suggesting a menu that balances familiar classics with more distinctive offerings. The interior itself is frequently praised, making it a fitting choice for special occasions or group dinners. Staff are noted for their warmth and care, including accommodating guests with young children and larger groups with ease. The restaurant opens daily from 18:00 to 22:00, operating exclusively as a dinner venue throughout the week. Given the refined setting and consistent demand, booking ahead is strongly advisable — particularly for groups or weekend evenings. The address at 6/1,6, 2 Soi Kasem San 2 is most easily reached by taxi or ride-hailing app; having the address saved in Thai script can help with navigation. Visitor Reviews
We visited for dinner as a group of four, including friends from Japan. We had a 7:00 PM reservation, and everything from arrival to seating was smooth and well-organized. The interior beautifully blends traditional Thai elements with a modern, refined design, creating an atmosphere that immediately impressed our guests. Despite being a famous restaurant, the dining space felt calm and comfortable, with well-spaced tables and a relaxed mix of international and local diners. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, especially when it came to explaining Thai dishes and discussing wine pairings in English. One of the highlights is that you can openly consult the staff about pairing Thai cuisine with both local and international wines, which adds a unique and thoughtful dimension to the dining experience. The food is modern Thai cuisine, carefully balanced and adapted for international guests, with refined and approachable flavors. We ordered several dishes to share, all of which paired beautifully with wine. Highlights included the slow-braised pork in a sweet and savory sauce, and a sea bass soup inspired by a regional recipe from Chief Chef Lek. The sea bass was perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and delicate flesh that enhanced the depth of the soup. Another great aspect is that the menu appears to change every few months for both lunch and dinner, making it a place worth revisiting for new Thai culinary experiences each time. Overall, the flavors felt elegant and thoughtfully composed, designed to shine even more when paired with wine. This is a level of Thai cuisine that truly can only be experienced in Thailand. Considering the quality of the food, service, and atmosphere, the pricing feels very reasonable. Highly recommended for travelers seeking an authentic yet refined Thai dining experience—and for those interested in discovering how Thai cuisine pairs with wines.
Bangkok Jim Thompson delivers a refined Thai dining experience that goes well beyond its elegant setting. The value here is not just the beautiful surroundings, but the clear focus on ingredient quality, careful preparation, and thoughtful plating. The cuisine feels like a flavor of Siam with western notes: traditional herbs and spices are handled with precision, while sauces are reduced to a clean, balanced finish. Textures stand out, from tender proteins with a gentle char to crisp vegetables that retain their snap, and the sweet, spicy, and acidic elements are layered rather than competing. Aromas of lemongrass and kaffir lime rise subtly from the plate, and dishes arrive at the proper temperature, showing attention to detail in both kitchen timing and presentation. Service is polished without being stiff, with well paced intervals between courses and staff ready to explain ingredients without overdoing it. The atmosphere blends classic Thai design with a calm, contemporary feel that encourages a relaxed meal. Reserve ahead for dinner, especially on weekends, and plan enough time to appreciate the kitchen’s craftsmanship rather than rushing through it.
We had a wonderful dining experience at Jim Thompson Restaurant. Mr. Baw and Mr. TY are very nice and professional. They took excellent care of us throughout the meal and made us feel very welcome. The food was very good — delicious, well-presented, and full of authentic Thai flavors. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and everything was handled with great care. Overall, a great experience with amazing food and outstanding service. Highly recommended!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
