Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Why go, and how to do it well
NANA Coffee Roasters Ari is the café most people mean when they say Ari is Bangkok's coffee neighborhood. It is a glass-fronted building of warm timber and greenery on Soi Ari 4, with a garden, bright main floors and a quieter mezzanine, and it began as the roastery of two Thai baristas before growing into a small group of cafés. More than 30 single origins are roasted in house and brewed by siphon, pour-over or espresso, and the staff will talk you through the origin notes on each.
The food is a full brunch menu rather than a pastry case, with the Nana Platter at ฿495 and croissant toasts around ฿320 to ฿390 in 2025, so it works for a late breakfast as well as a coffee. Expect a queue at peak times, especially at weekends.
It opens at 07:00 on weekdays and 08:00 at weekends and closes at 18:00. BTS Ari is about 10 minutes away on foot, and the lanes around it are full of other small cafés and restaurants, so it is a good anchor for a slow morning in the neighborhood.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
Use Grab for Delivery
The Grab app works for food delivery across Thailand, letting you order from street stalls and restaurants alike. It's invaluable on rainy days or when you want to eat in your hotel.
