The Star Live Music & Bar
Situated on the bustling Bangla Road strip in Patong, this live music bar draws a mixed crowd of tourists and locals with what repeat visitors describe as some of the most energetic band performances in the area. The house band is a consistent highlight, known for strong crowd interaction and a high-energy set that keeps the atmosphere lively well into the night. The venue operates as a straightforward bar with live performance as its centrepiece, making it better suited to those seeking entertainment and atmosphere over a quiet drink. The open-air setup means limited air-conditioning, so expect a warm environment on busy nights. Visitors should also be aware that card payments may attract an additional surcharge, and it is worth clarifying exactly what you are ordering when selecting bottles or premium drinks, as some reviewers have raised concerns about substituted products being served. Good to know: Bangla Road reaches peak energy from around 10pm onwards, and The Star tends to fill up quickly once the band gets going. Cash payments are likely to be the smoother option here, as with many venues in this part of Phuket. The pedestrian-friendly stretch of Bangla Road makes it easy to combine with other nearby bars if you are spending a full evening in the district. Casual clothing is perfectly appropriate.

Visitor Reviews
Probably the most energetic & fun band in Patong/Phuket. Anyone know what's the name of this band? The Star Live Music & Bar is so entertaining, but the only downside is lack of air-conditioning which I believed to keep the running cost down so that they can offer reasonable drinks. I read many reviews that if they don't continue to order drinks, they need to vacate the table or place - which to me it makes perfect sense since people are doing business and entertainment is not free. If don't feel like spending, stay in your hotel or don't travel. 😂
We had an amazing Halloween night there and the staff was really friendly. I see a lot of 1* reviews about asking cash or extra fee. This is everywhere in Thailand, they have their own banking system and Visa and Mastercard charge extra, of course they don't want to pay and add it to your bill. Even 7/11 has a minimum purchase. Yes, they ask for tips but won't be rude if you refuse. Also, yes, we were always asked if we want more drinks but were not kicked out when I was the only one ordering.
The best live band in Bangla Road, Patong. This band full of energy, good interaction with us, atmosphere at the top notch. Btw, whose know what the band name?
Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
