Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Why go, and how to do it well

This is a working produce market, not a shopping trip. It's the island's main fresh fruit and vegetable market, and the pricing reflects that: reviewers reckon it runs 20 to 80 percent cheaper than other markets around Phuket, with whole hands of bananas going for as little as 10 baht. If you're self-catering, staying somewhere with a kitchen, or just want fruit for the week without paying resort prices, it's worth the trip into Phuket Town.

Go early. The people who rate it highest all say the same thing, which is that you want to be there before 8am for the pick of the stock. Turn up later and you're picking through what's left, and quality does vary from stall to stall. One reviewer found the fruit disappointing outright, so look before you buy. The range skews heavily to bananas, pineapples and citrus rather than anything exotic. In the evening the character changes and prepared meals appear, which is a different reason to come.

Reviews from Google

This is the main fresh vegetable & fruit market on the island, a raw vegan heaven! Whole hands of bananas go for as little as THB 10 ($0.30). On average 20-80% cheaper than other markets. Works almost 24/7, but early morning and generally daytime are the best.

A nice market in Phuket, prepared meals in the evening

[Asia Honeymoon Tour March 2023] Not the greatest market. Predominantly citrus fruits, bananas and pineapples, different grades of quality. Not very good quality!

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.

Claim Your VAT Refund

Spend 2,000+ THB at a single store displaying 'VAT Refund for Tourists' signs, get a yellow form at the register, and claim 7% VAT back at the airport. It adds up fast on bigger purchases.
