Downtown Plaza
Situated on Ranong Road in the heart of Phuket Town, this bustling market serves as the island's primary fresh produce hub, drawing both locals stocking up on daily essentials and travellers hunting for exceptional value. Whole hands of bananas, fresh pineapples, citrus fruits, and a wide range of vegetables are available at prices reportedly 20 to 80 percent cheaper than other markets around Phuket, making it a practical stop for budget-conscious visitors and self-caterers alike. The atmosphere shifts depending on the time of day. Mornings bring the freshest produce and the widest selection, with stalls operating from the early hours through to late in the day. In the evening, prepared meals become available, adding a street food dimension to the market's appeal. The venue operates around the clock according to listed hours, though the active market hours are concentrated in the morning and evening periods. Good to know: Serious produce shoppers should aim to arrive before 8am for the best selection and freshest stock. Quality and variety can vary between visits, so managing expectations is worthwhile — the market skews heavily toward tropical fruits and vegetables rather than offering a broad range of specialty goods. Getting here by tuk-tuk or taxi from central Phuket Town accommodation is straightforward given the central Ranong Road address.

This is the main fresh vegetable & fruit market on the island, a raw vegan heaven! Whole hands of bananas go for as little as THB 10 ($0.30). On average 20-80% cheaper than other markets. Works almost 24/7, but early morning and generally daytime are the best.

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
