Tree Town Pattaya Night Market

4.3(5,583 reviews)

Go for the noise, not the shopping. This square of open-air bars, food stalls and clothing vendors sits on Soi Buakhao near 2nd Street and Soi 10, and it fills up after dark with live music coming from several directions at once. If you like people-watching from a bar stool with a cold beer, you'll settle in happily. If you want a quiet dinner, go somewhere else.

The food court is the part I'd point most people towards. Thai plates like chicken kaphrao and mango sticky rice, plus shawarma and kebabs, all at prices that stay reasonable, though regulars say they've crept up in recent years. One useful quirk: not every stall is a food stall, so you might ask at a coffee counter and get handed someone else's menu. Nobody minds. Ask around before you commit. Look out for the dancing shrimp vendor while you're wandering.

Expect a tourist crowd rather than a local one, and expect some of the bar staff to be more focused on filling seats than on charming you.

10 day guys trip to Thailand and it was hot!! Or maybe I just have to lose a few pounds. This place was bustling. Busy busy busy. Every bar and restaurant had customers. The country is so very accommodating of us Americans. The Thailand people are some of the most wonderful and respectful individuals I've ever met.

I can only speak to the food court area as I did not partake in the bars. During opening hours, staff are very friendly and laid back. I asked, apparently at a non-food stand, it was a coffee stand, about the availability of food and I was pointed to a table and given a menu from a nearby food vendor. The employee told me it was all "same same." The chicken kao praow and mango sticky rice were flavorful and delicious. To top it all, it was inexpensive. Contrast a day later when I happened to walk to the same food court on a busy Friday night and man the vibe was different. No longer relaxed and easy going. Every stall I happened to walk by, I got pressured to sit down at their table and when I would continue walking, the next food stall would push a menu in my face and try to direct me to a table, and etc. I had food vendors yelling for me from several stalls away. Very competitive. Not "same same." I was a bit turned off and walked away. In a nutshell, food is good and inexpensive but the vibe changes from when they first open to later in the night.

Linda's honest travel review! Tree town in the center of Pattaya close to 2nd Street and Soi 10. A square market place with many bars and vendors. Lively, colorful and loud. If you are into hanging out at bars, music, shooting pool and people watching. This would be your place. It opens in the evening and gets busy after 7 pm. Endless foreigners are lined up along the bars watching others every move. The seater's, entertainers and waitresses are missing a smile when you walk by. Some are even ignorant or angry. Definitely not business oriented. At the opposite site Soi Buakhao Street goes along with many additional bars full of some beautiful ladyboys. Same experience there, many are looking annoyed, angry or ignoring walkers and potential customers. Watch out for traffic in that street! It is narrow and cars and scooters are racing thru! The party goes on until past 2 am and again tomorrow. Have fun!

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls

Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.

Arrive Early or Late

Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.

Be Cautious with Tailors

Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
