About SALA Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort
Mai Khao is the stretch of Phuket most people fly straight past, which is exactly the point. Eleven kilometers of sand in the island's far northwest, barely anyone on it, and this resort sitting on it in Sino-Portuguese style with shuttered courtyards and private pools behind most of the villa walls. It's a fifteen-minute run from the airport, which makes it one of the few places on the island where a first or last night doesn't mean an airport hotel with a view of a parking lot.
If you want walkable nightlife, bar streets and a choice of twenty restaurants, this is the wrong end of Phuket entirely and you'll be in a taxi constantly. If you want to sit still, you'll do well here. The beachfront pool bar and the rooftop sunset deck cover the evenings. Turtles still nest on this beach in the winter months, which tells you how little traffic it gets.
