This is the Phuket you book when you want nobody to see you all week. Every villa comes with its own pool and an outdoor sala behind high walls, and the whole place is laid out like a Thai village around lagoons, set back from Mai Khao Beach on the quiet northwest coast. If you can, take a lagoon-facing villa. Those ones open straight onto the water, which is the difference between a nice room and a room you don't want to leave.
The trade-off with Mai Khao is that there's very little outside the gates, so plan on eating and drinking on site. That's less of a problem here than at some neighbors, because there's a cooking school, a turtle conservation program and a sunset bar to fill the gaps. It leans family and privacy rather than adults-only hush, so bringing kids won't feel like a mistake.
