Khao Takiab Nuea Beach

4.5(381 reviews)

Sitting at the northern end of Hua Hin's coastline in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, this beach offers a noticeably quieter alternative to the town's busier shores. The setting is defined by sandy, shallow waters backed by a hillside that draws visitors as much for its views as for the beach itself. A small temple sits at the top of the hill, accessible from the beach end, and the surrounding area is known locally as monkey mountain, adding an element of exploration beyond the shoreline. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried. Hillside restaurants and bars provide elevated spots to eat, drink, and look out over Hua Hin, and these tend to be a draw in their own right during afternoons and evenings. The beach itself is generally uncrowded, particularly on weekday mornings, though cleanliness can vary. Visitors report that cleaning crews do make regular passes, so conditions tend to improve throughout the day. Good to know: Arriving early in the morning offers the quietest experience and the best conditions for photography, though most shops and restaurants along the hillside will still be closed at that hour. Weekend and public holiday visits bring noticeably more people. Those planning to walk up toward the temple or explore the rocky hillside should wear appropriate footwear. Sun protection is advisable, as shade on the main beach is limited.

Very chill beach. Clean and not many people. There’s many restaurants up the mountain side to sit and eat or drink. It’s very cool and you can go up the monkey mountain from this side too

Went in the morning around 10. Shops and restaurants were still closed which was perfect for pictures. Beautiful place

Tips for Visiting Beaches

Check Monsoon Windows

Andaman coast beaches (Phuket, Krabi) have rough seas May–October. Gulf beaches (Samui, Hua Hin) are roughest October–December. Plan your beach trip around these windows for calm water and safe swimming.

Go Early for Empty Sand

Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. Sunrise walks on Kata, Chaweng, or Railay are magical — and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
