Kata Hot Yoga

4.7(137 reviews)

Situated on Khoktanod Road in the heart of Kata Beach, this dedicated hot yoga studio specialises in 26 & 2 yoga — the traditional sequence of 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises practised in a heated room. Beyond drop-in classes, the studio offers structured programmes including intensive teacher training courses, making it a destination not just for casual visitors but for serious practitioners looking to deepen their practice during an extended Phuket stay. The studio maintains a professional and focused atmosphere, with experienced teachers guiding students through sessions in a clean, well-equipped space. Amenities include showers and an on-site selection of fresh coconuts, kombucha, and water — a thoughtful touch after an intense heated session. Classes accommodate all experience levels, from first-timers to long-term practitioners, and the studio has built a loyal following among visitors who return across multiple trips or commit to multi-week challenges. Good to know: Visitors new to hot yoga should prepare for a genuinely demanding physical experience — arriving well-hydrated and wearing lightweight, breathable clothing is strongly advised. Those with specific goals such as completing a 30-day challenge or enrolling in teacher training should plan their stay accordingly, as these programmes require a meaningful time commitment. The studio's central Kata Beach location makes it easy to combine a morning class with time at the beach, and securing a spot in advance is recommended during the busy November-to-April high season.

Inspired by my first visit to Kata Hot Yoga in 2018, my wife and I recently completed a 30 Day Hot Yoga Challenge there. We completed 30 classes within 30 days – and it’s been a transformative journey for us both. At 61, I’ve tried many different types of exercises and sports. But practicing hot yoga at Kata has proven to be one of the healthiest choices I’ve made in a long time. The physical benefits are wonderful, I’m stronger, leaner and much more tenuous after the 30 Day Challenge – and it’s also helped me with my mild arthritis. After my two visits, I am now completely hooked on Kata Hot Yoga's authentic hot yoga experience. The studio’s focus is on the original Bikram method that combines 26 postures and 2 breathing exercises in a 40C/105F heated room for 90 minutes. And what makes this studio even more special is Govert, the owner and head teacher. Before opening Kata Hot Yoga over 15 years ago, he actually worked directly with Bikram himself. Whatever you may think of Bikram Choudhury the man, there is no denying that his hot yoga practice is genius. Govert's deep understanding of all the 26 postures, combined with his light-hearted humor, makes each session both effective and fun. Likewise, Olivia, Jib, and the other instructors are just as dedicated, offering personalized feedback in real-time that helps everyone tweak their postures so all of us always got the most out of each class. The studio is located just minutes from Kata Beach and is super-easy to reach. It has a large lounge, changing/shower rooms and you can buy fresh coconuts, kombucha and water before/after class. The studio's atmosphere is light and bright, and the outdoor space is perfect for relaxing and cooling down with a few scoops of cold water after an intense morning or evening class. My wife and I were lucky to do our 30 Day Challenge during the studio’s annual Teacher Training course, which allowed us to meet amazing people from all walks of life and from all over the world. The positive energy in this studio is palpable, and the sense of community Govert has created is something truly remarkable . I’ve practiced many different kinds of yoga in many places around the world. But to me, Kata Hot Yoga is the gold standard, the benchmark that offers a truly memorable experience. We can’t wait to return and continue fine-tuning our postures! Joakim & Charlotte (from Sweden)

I attended the intensive Hot Yoga 26 & 2 Teacher Training course at Kata Hot Yoga over the summer, and it was truly a life-changing experience. Having practiced 26 & 2 hot yoga for over ten years, I’ve long appreciated its benefits—but following several health challenges in recent years, including a hip replacement and arthritic shoulders, I’ve become forever indebted to the healing power of this yoga. Both mentally and physically, it has supported my recovery in ways I can’t overstate. This practice is genuinely underrated for its incredible healing benefits. While I never set out with a burning desire to teach, I wanted to deepen my understanding of the postures and the philosophy behind the practice. The training turned out to be the most demanding challenge I have ever undertaken—certainly not for the faint-hearted! The five and a half weeks were intense and unforgettable, filled with two 90-minute hot yoga classes a day, posture clinics, lectures, and daily assessments. At times, I questioned the methods and the purpose behind certain aspects of the training and was simply told to “trust the process.” That wasn’t easy at first, and memorizing the dialogue verbatim often felt impossible. But despite the physical and mental exhaustion (and there were plenty of tough days!), the beautiful paradise setting of Kata Beach kept me grounded and motivated to see it through. Along the way, I met incredible people from around the world—some of whom have become lifelong friends. I’ll always be grateful to Govert and Eric for their tough yet compassionate guidance, encouragement, and unwavering belief in me. Their passion and knowledge for Hot Yoga 26 & 2 are truly inspiring. Although I started the course unsure if I’d ever teach, I’ve returned to the UK now proudly leading Hot Yoga classes. It would feel like a waste not to share what I’ve learned—the knowledge is too rich and rewarding to keep to myself. If you’re looking for a challenge that will push you to your limits while deepening your understanding of Hot Yoga 26 & 2 and its philosophy, I cannot recommend the Kata Hot Yoga Teacher Training highly enough. It’s an experience that will stay with you forever.

Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas

Learn Wat Pho First

Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.

Communicate Pressure Preferences

Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.

Book Longer Sessions

A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
