Yoga Essential School
Yoga Essential School is a small, intimate yoga studio located in the Taling Ngam area of Koh Samui, offering classes and teacher training programs for practitioners at various levels. The school is run by instructor Lex, who has built a strong reputation for attentive, personalised teaching that emphasises proper technique and genuine understanding of yoga rather than simply moving through sequences. Visitors consistently note real, measurable progress in flexibility, energy, and overall wellbeing after regular attendance. The studio has a cosy, focused atmosphere that suits those looking for a meaningful practice rather than a large commercial gym environment. Morning classes beginning at 06:30 are a popular feature, allowing guests to start their day with yoga as the sun rises — a format that has proven especially appealing to travellers staying on the island for several weeks. Teacher training courses are also available for those looking to deepen their practice or pursue certification, with past participants describing the program as rigorous and enriching. Given the studio's small size and personalised approach, spaces in classes and training programs are likely limited, so prospective visitors are advised to reach out in advance to confirm availability and scheduling before planning their visit around it. The school is particularly well suited to travellers who want their time in Koh Samui to include a consistent, structured wellness routine rather than drop-in sessions alone.

Visitor Reviews
I had the honour of completing my yoga teacher training with Lex in July 2025, and it was an incredibly enriching experience. I was looking for a program that emphasized high-quality teaching practice, led by an experienced E-RYT 500 teacher—and that’s exactly what I found here. Lex, the owner and lead instructor, stood out to me with his sincere reviews online, so I reached out—and I can honestly say, it was worth every penny. The accommodation was excellent (you can even bring a guest!), and the meal plan was amazing—special thanks to P’Nick for the delicious and nourishing food. The classes were thoughtfully structured, and the overall quality of teaching was exceptional. Lex is incredibly knowledgeable, generously sharing not only yoga teachings but also practical health advice and even Aikido techniques—both fun and useful! Throughout the training, I learned yoga philosophy, anatomy, alignment and pose modifications, and most importantly, how to teach with confidence and clarity. By the third week, I even had the chance to assist Lex in class, which was a rare and valuable opportunity to grow as a teacher. Lex places strong emphasis on pranayama (breath control), which helped me develop better focus and internal awareness. Most people associate yoga with just “asana” (the physical postures), but if you’re looking to either become a teacher or simply deepen your understanding of what yoga truly means—this is the place. You won’t be disappointed. Lex puts his heart into every class and genuinely cares about each student’s growth. I can’t recommend this training highly enough.
I’ve been attending classes at this yoga school for the past 4 months and I’ve noticed real changes in my flexibility, energy, mood and understanding of yoga. Lex is an outstanding teacher with a rare depth of knowledge and a genuine understanding of what he teaches. The classes are diverse, engaging and challenging in the best way. His lightheartedness and sense of humor make each session enjoyable and welcoming. There’s no sense of competition, just encouragement to work at your own pace and honor where you are in your practice. Highly recommended.
Me and my husband enjoy morning classes with Lex very much. Starting the day with yoga at 06:30 is just the right thing for us. The classes are super professional. Lex is a very attentive teacher and can adjust the level of each asana to every student. Every class ends with breathing exercises that improve our ability to focus later during the day. Highly recommended
Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas
Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
