ควันจุ๊งจุ๊ง Rooftop Bar & Bistro(ช้างคลาน)
Tucked above the Chang Khlan neighbourhood, this rooftop bar and bistro has earned a following among both locals and travellers for its relaxed atmosphere, affordable prices, and genuine hospitality. Compared to more polished rooftop venues in Chiang Mai, it leans decidedly local in character — a quality visitors consistently highlight as part of its appeal. The open-air setting doubles as an observation deck with city views, making it a worthwhile stop for those seeking something more authentic than the tourist-facing alternatives nearby. The menu centres on BBQ and bistro fare alongside a drinks selection that includes cocktails such as yuzu and lychee-based options. The atmosphere is social and easygoing, with music setting a relaxed tone. Service receives strong praise across reviews, with staff described as welcoming, attentive, and helpful. Note that vegetarian options are limited — edamame and french fries are among the few available choices — so those with dietary preferences should plan accordingly. Good to know: Arriving early in the 5 to 7 PM window is recommended for the best sunset views, as seating with a good outlook can fill up. The venue is open every day from 5 PM to midnight. One practical note worth heeding from visitor experience: rideshare and taxi drivers can be reluctant to travel to this elevated location, so arranging a return ride before you leave or allowing extra time to secure transport is advisable.

Visitor Reviews
Loved the service. Everyone was welcoming and helpful and attentive. Great views for a rooftop bar sunset. No vegetarian options except edamame and french fries, but the fries were delicious! Also, if you aren't drinking alcohol, I highly recommend the lemonade. They give you a free shot to sample it! Edit* Forgot the most important fact! I was confused on the entrance. You go inside the building, there are no signs on the first floor. Actually looks under construction. You find the elevator inside to your right and go straight to the top! The landing has an indoor bar area with big windows and half flight of stairs to the open roof.
We found this place just by gazing out from our own balcony 20 metres away. Very local type spot. Very friendly and much more affordable than other roof tops in Chiang Mai. Had delicious yuzu and lychee mojitos! It looked like everyone was eating something like Vietnamese hot pot! It’s a little hard to find - follow these images lol!
Good atmosphere.👌🏻 Nice Music taste. 🤏🏻The food wasn't bad. 🙂↔️

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
