Earl Thai Restaurant

4.4(272 reviews)

Situated on Thanon Naresuan in the heart of Ayutthaya's old city, this Thai restaurant occupies a convenient position for visitors spending the day among the ancient ruins and temples nearby. The interior carries a distinctive American-themed decorative style with collectible items, giving it an eclectic character that stands out from typical dining spots in the area. The menu focuses on Thai dishes prepared with fresh ingredients, and the proprietor is noted by guests for being welcoming and attentive. Visitor experiences vary, and prospective diners should go in with measured expectations. Several guests have praised the food quality, fast service, and affordable prices, while others have noted the restaurant draws a predominantly Western tourist crowd rather than locals. At least one visitor reported concerns about cleanliness and food hygiene, which is worth factoring into your decision. The lively atmosphere is generally considered suitable for families with children. Good to know: the restaurant opens daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM, offering flexibility across a full day of sightseeing. Given its location near popular heritage sites, it can get busy during standard meal times. Arriving in the mid-afternoon between temple visits may offer a quieter, more relaxed experience. No website is currently available, so booking in advance is not an option — plan to walk in.

The food is very fresh with good quality ingredients. The eatery was recommended by my homestay and it didn’t disappoint. The proprietor/manager is kind and welcoming and there is a cool refreshing air conditioned section to the left. Sadly no food photos as I’d eaten everything too soon.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
