Chillax Bar
Tucked away in Railay, Chillax Bar is a casual, welcoming spot that punches well above its size. Set up as a small hut with a rooftop hangout area, it offers an unpretentious atmosphere where travellers can settle in, people-watch, and enjoy well-made cocktails without the noise and pressure of bigger beach bars. The relaxed, no-frills setting is a big part of its appeal.
The drinks menu draws consistent praise, with mojitos, daiquiris, and cocktails regularly called out by visitors as highlights. The bar is run by a sociable team known for going out of their way to make guests feel at home — chatting, offering insights into local Thai culture, and keeping the energy lively. Board games are available, making it a natural spot to linger longer than planned. The music adds to the atmosphere without overpowering conversation.
For the best value, visitors should time their visit to coincide with happy hour, when drink prices drop noticeably. As the bar is located in Railay — an area accessible only by boat — it is worth factoring in travel time when planning an evening out. No website or advance booking appears to be available, so arriving early is advisable, particularly during peak season when the rooftop area fills up quickly.

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
