Why go, and how to do it well

Kad Farang means "foreigners' market," and the name fits. This open-air lifestyle village in Hang Dong serves the families living in the villa estates south of the city, with a Rimping supermarket for imported groceries and a ring of restaurants cooking Korean, Vietnamese, Chinese, Western and Thai food.

In the evening a food market fills the lanes with street-food stalls, fruit, clothes and toys, and it's busy with locals by five o'clock. It's a neighborhood mall rather than a sight, but it's the obvious place to eat if you've come out to Chiang Mai Premium Outlet, a couple of hundred meters away, or to the woodcarvers of Baan Tawai.

It's about 11 km south of the Old City, so a Grab is the practical way here.
