Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe is one speedboat ride, about 3 hours from Saladan pier at the north end of Lanta to Pattaya Beach on Lipe, from mid-October to 20 May. Bundhaya leaves at 10:30, with a second boat at 12:30 from November to early May, for ฿1,700, and Tigerline and Satun Pakbara sail around the same times. The boats work south through the Trang islands, calling at Koh Ngai, Koh Mook and Koh Kradan, so the trip doubles as a tour of some of the clearest water in Thailand, and you can break it with a night or two on one of them.

On Lipe there's no pier for the speedboats, so a longtail takes you to the sand. I'd take the 10:30. It's the boat that runs all season, and it lands at 13:30 with the afternoon ahead of you. From late May to mid-October the speedboats stop, and the only way is by road to Pak Bara and the boat from there.

From the 10:30, it's Koh Ngai at about 11:00, Koh Mook at 11:20 and Koh Kradan at 11:40, then Lipe at 13:30. Hops between the Trang islands cost about ฿300–400 a leg.

Saladan is the village at Lanta's north tip, a short taxi or hotel-van ride from Long Beach, Klong Dao and the west coast.

Koh Lipe is in Tarutao National Park, ฿200 for an adult and ฿100 for a child, in cash. The longtail from the boat to the beach is about ฿50 if your ticket doesn't include it.
Late May to mid-October, go by road
The speedboats stop for the monsoon, and the way to Lipe is by van to Pak Bara and the speedboat from there, which runs all year.

The Speedboat From Saladan
Every boat to Lipe leaves from Saladan pier, in the village at the north tip of Lanta. If you're staying on Long Beach, Klong Dao or farther down the west coast, it's a short taxi or hotel-van ride; ask your hotel when to leave, and be at the pier half an hour before the boat.
Bundhaya's 10:30 runs the whole season, from mid-October to 20 May, and its 12:30 from 1 November to 4 May, both ฿1,700. Tigerline leaves at 10:30 and 13:30 and Satun Pakbara at about 10:30 and 15:00, sold through 12Go. The ride can be wet and bumpy when the wind is up. Keep your passport and phone in a dry bag and take something for seasickness if you need it.
On Lipe, the boats stop off Pattaya Beach and a longtail takes you to the sand. Wear shorts, keep your bag light, and pay the ฿200 national park fee in cash.
Stopping Over in the Trang Islands
The Lipe speedboat calls at three of the Trang islands on the way, Koh Ngai about 30 minutes out of Saladan, Koh Mook at about 50 minutes and Koh Kradan at about 1 hour 10. That makes them easy to add. Buy Lanta to Ngai, Mook or Kradan for ฿650–950 on Bundhaya, stay a night or two, then pick up the next day's boat for ฿1,400–1,600 to Lipe, or hop between the islands for about ฿300–400 a leg.
Koh Kradan has the best beach of the three, Koh Mook has the Emerald Cave and a real village, and Koh Ngai is the quietest, with one long beach and almost nothing else. Our guides to each have where to stay and when the boats land.

Going back, Bundhaya's speedboat leaves Pattaya Beach at 09:00 and reaches Saladan at 12:00, from mid-October to 20 May, with a second boat at 12:00, arriving at 15:00, from 1 November to 4 May. Both cost ฿1,700 and call at the Trang islands on the way. On 12Go, other operators' boats leave Lipe at 10:30, 11:30 and 12:30.
All year, a van and speedboat ticket via Pak Bara leaves Lipe at 09:30 and reaches Lanta 6 to 8.5 hours later, for about ฿1,200–1,380, and it's the way back when the island boats aren't running.

From 21 May to mid-October no speedboat runs between Lanta and Lipe. The way is by road, a van from Lanta to Pak Bara pier and the speedboat from there, which runs all year. It's the rainy season, so the crossing can be rough, Lipe is much quieter and many places close, so check that your hotel is open before you book.
