Tawaen Beach

4.3(10,461 reviews)

The water is the reason to come. Clear, properly coloured, fine sand underfoot, and enough width along the shore that a family can spread out and make a day of it. This is the largest beach on Ko Lan, a short boat hop from Pattaya, and it feels like a different country from the mainland beaches even though it's barely half an hour away.

Don't come expecting quiet. Jet skis and passing boats are the soundtrack, and at peak times the sand fills up. Sun loungers are everywhere for rent, though a few people reckon the chairs cost too much for the cramped space you get, and service on the sand can be brusque. Food is the easy part: local restaurants line the back of the beach at roughly mainland prices. My advice is to arrive early, claim your spot, and treat the crowds as part of the deal.

Reviews from Google

It is a small island. And a nice beach. We went there by speedboat. A monster with 2x 300hp. Spectacular. It was a day trip just to see how a island like this is. If you like a quiet holiday in a nice resort. It is on the island. We are more travelers so 1 day to look and feel is enough. So we hired a motorcycle and did sightsee the entire island. Walking is not a real option. Too big for waking. An motorcycling in another country is always nice. Finding an ATM is a bit of a thing. So take enough money with you. And have something to keep you and your phone etc dry during the speedboat trip :)

Beach is nice and clean, amazing water color, there's a lot of sun beds for rent, local restaurants offer food in normal prices, same as on the main land. The only thing I didn't like was the noise from the boats and jet skis but it's still a nice place to relax.

Beautiful beach, service on the beach = 0 points. Expensive chairs, narrow space, nervous staff, catastrophic atmossphere

Tips for Visiting Beaches

Check Monsoon Windows

Andaman coast beaches (Phuket, Krabi) have rough seas May–October. Gulf beaches (Samui, Hua Hin) are roughest October–December. Plan your beach trip around these windows for calm water and safe swimming.

Go Early for Empty Sand

Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. Sunrise walks on Kata, Chaweng, or Railay are magical — and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
