Ta Yai Beach ( หาดตายาย )

4.5(887 reviews)

Tucked away on Ko Lan island off the coast of Pattaya, Ta Yai Beach draws visitors who prefer a calmer, less crowded shoreline. Smaller than the island's more prominent beaches, it retains a natural character with stretches of white sand and clear blue water that remain largely free of the dense rows of sunbeds found elsewhere on Ko Lan. The surrounding area offers coffee shops, seafood restaurants, and basic beach amenities, keeping the experience comfortable without feeling overdeveloped. The atmosphere is notably relaxed, with a mix of Thai locals and international visitors who tend to seek out Ta Yai specifically for its quieter setting. Snorkelling and swimming are popular activities given the water clarity, and the beach serves as a reasonable base for exploring the island more broadly, as other beaches on Ko Lan are accessible within a day trip. Sunbeds rent for around 100 baht, towels for 100 baht, and cold beers are available from vendors at reasonable prices. Good to know: Ko Lan is reached by ferry from Pattaya's Bali Hai Pier, with a crossing time of approximately 45 minutes. Ta Yai Beach sees noticeably fewer visitors than other spots on the island, but weekday visits still offer the most peaceful experience, particularly outside Thai public holidays. The dry season from November to February brings the most stable weather and the clearest water conditions.

Reviews from Google

Probably the best beach for a number of reasons. First it is smaller and quieter without hordes of people. second, most of the beach is free of loungers and you can just enjoy it in its natural state. Surf is a bit stronger but still nothing to worry about. I recommend this place after 4 pm when the sun if down and you can lay on the sand without having to worry

Great beach! White sand, clear blue water. There are many beautiful coffee shops and restaurants on the island. A sunbed costs 100 baht, and a towel costs 100 baht. Beer costs around 80-90 baht. It's a stunning place!

My opinion, this is the best beach on Koh Larn, smaller than the other beaches and therefore not as many people.

Tips for Visiting Beaches

Check Monsoon Windows

Andaman coast beaches (Phuket, Krabi) have rough seas May–October. Gulf beaches (Samui, Hua Hin) are roughest October–December. Plan your beach trip around these windows for calm water and safe swimming.

Go Early for Empty Sand

Even the busiest beaches are nearly deserted before 9 AM. Sunrise walks on Kata, Chaweng, or Railay are magical — and you'll beat the heat for a morning swim.

Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Many Thai marine parks ban chemical sunscreens that damage coral. Bring reef-safe (mineral/zinc-based) sunscreen from home — it's harder to find and pricier in Thailand.
