Namtok Hin Phoeng

4.3(182 reviews)

If you want a swim that isn't in the sea, this is the kind of place I'd point you towards. The falls drop into natural pools deep enough to get into, with thick jungle pressing in on all sides, and there's none of the resort scaffolding you get at Krabi's better-known spots. No cafes to speak of, no structure to the visit. You turn up, you find a rock, you get in the water.

Flow depends entirely on rain. Come during or just after the wet season, roughly May to October, and you'll see it at full strength. In the dry months it's calmer, which some people prefer for swimming anyway. Either way, bring shoes with grip. Wet rock around a waterfall is exactly as slippery as it sounds, and I've seen enough people go over in flip-flops to keep repeating it. Pack a change of clothes too.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Popular Activities Online

Booking platforms like GetYourGuide give you instant confirmation and, on many activities, free cancellation — and you can read recent reviews before committing. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
