Krabi Elephant HOUSE Sanctuary

4.7(897 reviews)

Nestled in Tambon Thab Prik, this sanctuary offers a genuinely ethical encounter with rescued elephants, many of whom have been saved from circuses and tourist performance shows. Riding is not permitted, and the focus is firmly on the animals' welfare, giving visitors a more meaningful and education-led experience than traditional elephant attractions. The small-group setting allows for close, unhurried time with the elephants in a naturalistic environment. Visitors can expect to walk alongside the elephants, feed them, apply mud as a natural sunscreen, and bathe them in the river — a hands-on sequence that guides lead with care and clear instruction. Guides such as Coconut Joe and TikTok are frequently praised by visitors for their knowledge, warmth, and ability to explain safe interaction techniques while keeping the atmosphere relaxed and engaging. The combination of knowledgeable staff and well-cared-for animals gives the sanctuary a distinctly personal feel. Good to know: specific opening hours and booking details are not listed online, so contacting the sanctuary directly before visiting is strongly recommended. Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet and muddy, and bring sturdy footwear suitable for uneven, damp terrain. The experience works well as a half-day activity and pairs easily with other attractions in the Krabi region.

Visitor Reviews

We had the most incredible experience at Krabi Elephant Sanctuary. A massive thank you to Coconut Joe for making this day completely unforgettable. He had a really good understanding of English and explained everything so clearly. He made us feel comfortable asking questions — no matter how silly we thought they were — and was always happy to answer them. You could tell how passionate and knowledgeable he was about the elephants. The elephants themselves were absolutely beautiful. One of them was pregnant, which made the experience even more special — I still can’t believe I got to gently touch a pregnant elephant. That’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. We were also lucky enough to see a baby elephant, which was just adorable. We even got to try making paper from elephant poo! It sounds a bit gross, but it was actually very clean and well organised. You don’t touch anything dirty , and it was really interesting to see the process and how the paper is made. Overall, this was such a brilliant experience. The sanctuary clearly cares deeply about the elephants and their wellbeing. I genuinely couldn’t recommend a better place to visit if you’re in Krabi. Thank you again, Coconut Joe, for such a magical day — it’s a memory we’ll treasure forever. 🐘💚

Absolutely amazing experience at Krabi Elephant House Sanctuary. Our guide TikTok was phenomenal — entertaining, friendly, and very clear when explaining how to interact with the elephants and sharing background knowledge. I was quite scared and intimidated at first, but TikTok’s encouragement really helped ease me in. All of the elephants seemed very well cared for and happy. Feeding them was so much fun, especially getting to meet both the big elephants and the babies. The mud spa and bathing experience was unforgettable and such a special hands-on moment. We were also given fruit and drinks, which was a lovely touch. Huge thank you to TikTok and her team for such an incredible, ethical, and memorable experience. Highly recommend! 🐘✨

This is by far the best elephant sanctuary in all of Krabi! Everything was absolutely wonderful. Jok - “Coconut-man” was an excellent guide. Did an incredible job explaining about how to safely interact with the elephants. So many elephants that you get to interact with up close and personal, including several young babies. Making medicine and paper was a nice way to learn more about the elephants. Feeding, bathing, & spending quality time with so many elephants was a once in a life time experience. There are many places that claim to be the best or most ethical, but Krabi Elephant House Sanctuary is hands down the best in all of Krabi or Thailand for that matter. Book today you will not be disappointed. 🐘🇹🇭🎉

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours

Vet Elephant Sanctuaries

Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.

Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide

These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.

Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning

Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
