Why go, and how to do it well

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden spreads over a forested hillside in the Mae Sa Valley, about 20 to 30 minutes' drive beyond Mae Sa Waterfall on the road from Mae Rim toward Samoeng. It's a research garden as much as a park, with themed glasshouses and a canopy walkway of about 400 m that runs through the treetops.

Give it two to three hours. The grounds are steep and spread out, so most visitors drive between the sections. It pairs naturally with Mae Sa Waterfall and the Mon Jam hills for a half day out of Chiang Mai.
