ONSEN AT MONCHAM ออนเซ็นแอทม่อนแจ่ม
Set in the cool mountain district of Mae Rim, roughly 30 kilometres north of Chiang Mai, Onsen at Moncham is a wellness resort that brings Japanese onsen bathing traditions to the northern Thai highlands. The combination of natural geothermal hot springs, mountain scenery, and lush greenery creates an atmosphere that visitors frequently compare to being in Japan — peaceful, immaculately maintained, and a genuine contrast to the city's pace. Guests can expect a full resort experience rather than a simple day spa. Accommodation, dining, massage treatments, and access to the hot spring pools are all part of the offering, and reviewers consistently highlight the quality of the food, the attentiveness of staff, and the cleanliness of the facilities. The surrounding mountains and fresh highland air add to the restorative atmosphere, and multiple visitors recommend staying at least two nights to fully absorb the setting rather than rushing through on a day trip. Good to know: Onsen at Moncham is located in a semi-rural area along Route 4051 in Pong Yaeng, so arranging private transport or a taxi in advance is strongly recommended, as public transport options to this area are limited. The cooler season from November through February is the most popular time to visit, when the contrast between the heated pools and crisp mountain air is at its most enjoyable. As with any hot spring facility, bringing swimwear and a change of clothes is essential.

Exceptional Family Stay at Onsen at Moncham ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️++++ Our family: my husband, our daughter, and I, stayed at the Onsen at Moncham, and everything truly exceeded our expectations. From the beautifully designed rooms and outstanding facilities to the exceptional service, every detail was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and kindness. The receptionists, ground staff, gardeners, security team, housekeepers, onsen staff, and restaurant staff, everyone greeted us with friendly smiles and made us feel so well cared for throughout our stay. A special mention to the restaurant team, especially Neko, whose lovely smile and warmth truly brightened our dining experience. The managers were also incredibly approachable and attentive, ensuring everything ran smoothly and comfortably. Our stay was incredibly relaxing and comfortable. The onsen experience was wonderful, and the restaurant and food were exceptional, every meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. We would also like to express our sincere thanks for the unexpected room upgrade. The room was extremely spacious and made our stay even more special and memorable for our family. We honestly cannot fault anything and would highly recommend the Onsen at Moncham to everyone. We are truly grateful for the care, hospitality, and kindness shown to our family. We will definitely be coming back again! Thank you for making our stay so pleasant and unforgettable. From the Wood Family (Rex, Chalita & Leah) 🌸❤️
Every part of this experience was top notch. From their seamless check in process, to the moment you leave, the staff always have your best interest in mind. Everyone is very kind and welcoming, giving you the ultimate restful and relaxing weekend you need. My wife and I just needed to recharge our batteries, so we drove an hour from Hang Dong to this absolutely amazing gem. We splurged for the in Onsen suite but spent almost all of our time at their public Onsen. It was so calming and relaxing. Going from a cold plunge, to the hot water, to the room temperature water left us feeling like we just left a massage spa. We felt SO GREAT! The beds were Japanese style, so a little firm, but still soft for Asia! The dinner was fabulous and the breakfast was out of this world. Literally zero complaints. Just a fun bonus: they have cutest little wild rabbits roaming the property. BLISS. Definitely will be returning.
Great location and atmosphere — it truly feels like being in Japan surrounded by mountains. The place is spotless, peaceful, and very well maintained. The food was excellent, the massage was fantastic, and the staff were incredibly kind. A special mention to the lady managing the massage and onsen — she gave us great local tips and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. What makes it special is the vibe: lots of locals and Thai visitors, not just a crowded tourist spot. If you’re looking for a relaxing Japanese-style retreat around Chiang Mai, this place is absolutely worth it. Highly recommended.
Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas
Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
